I fell in love with these characters in Matt and Dawn's book, Darkness Before Dawn, so I eagerly devoured Lauren and Brett's story in After Sunrise, only to find it was only the first part of their story and ended quite the opposite of happily ever after!! I unequivocally despise cliffhangers, but if the writing is good enough, the characters are realistic and endearing enough, and the story is compelling enough I get sucked in and have to get my hands on the rest of the story.
Brett and Lauren's was one of those stories, so I got ahold of an early copy and read from beginning to end, savoring every word. Their journey to forever is so soul stirring it was absolutely worth the wait. Robbins has a way of bringing the characters to life with all their human flaws and frailties, of painting vivid word pictures, and of creating deep, emotional, true to life circumstances so the reader effortlessly becomes a part of the story. Brett and Lauren will break your heart and shred your soul, then knit you back together again, leaving you with immense satisfaction for having had them in your life for a short time. If you enjoy heartfelt, deeply emotional, inspiring romance you’ll love this entire series!

This series stretches out with all 3 books and you get to see a glimpse at Dawn and Matt again as well.
Very well written and I am hoping we will see more of the characters in this series
Even from the first book, the connection between Brett and Tori is palpable. In the second, this doesn't change. As a reader, we root for them to reconcile and find each other again. In fact, "rooting" for Brett and Tori is the theme of this second book. This isn't a spoiler, but early on in this book, Brett and Tori do reconcile. The issue is Brett's PTSD. Spending almost two decades in the military has changed him irreparably. As such, there are so many challenges between these two characters. I think that is my favorite part of this book. Robbins walks us so thoroughly through the challenges of our military people that this becomes, almost, the main storyline of the book. I liked how this is interwoven with the romance story of Tori and Brett. Even more, Robbins, unlike a lot of romance writers, gives us a thorough story of these two characters. There are many times when I want more information about their lives. When the reader finishes this book, you feel complete. While you know they will continue to exist in their romance world, you finish the book feeling as though you have read all that you need. I voluntarily agreed to read an ARC of this book, and I am thankful that I did.
