Let me tell you... I misjudged it.
Brielle is no doormat who is reluctantly and sighingly doing her "duty." Yes, she is married off to a man she's never met. But Tomas is no barbarian. He is actually a fabulous character in general and a more considerate, caring, loving husband than many women pick out for themselves these days! The way that they grow together over the course of the book is very, very sweet.
Because the characters are married there is a good amount of heady kissing and it's implied that things get intimate after the close of more than one chapter. It's completely appropriate, but I would recommend it for later high-school and adults.
I truly enjoyed reading this book and am looking forward to getting my hands on more of Mrs. Rossano's work. The story was every bit as beautiful as the cover after all! Hooray!
Note: the only detractor I have with Rachel Rossano's books is that she does utilize one curse word frequently enough to notice (about twice per book). If this is a deal-breaker, please be aware. However, I have found her to have underlying Christian themes that are not really defined until you get to The King of Anavrea. The faith aspect makes her more trustworthy in my estimation. I truly enjoy her. Keep it up, Rachel!
