This is not a book to be read quickly and put on a shelf. Dwelling Places, like her previous book Live These Words, is a reservoir from which I am drawing strength and direction. Her masterful storytelling intertwines Biblical truths with real-life applications in a very readable way. She challenges the reader to introspection through quiet dwelling with our Lord – not an easy task in our loud and demanding world!
Fifteen copies of Cindy’s book are on their way to me so I can share her wisdom and life experiences with my closest friends. Not sure I can wait until their birthdays to gift them with Dwelling Places!
Lucinda's book is setup by seasons and words. This makes it so convenient to select a place to read. I love that I can read as much as I have time for. I used it in my quiet times. Her insights and stories are right on the mark. I've already purchased mulitple copies (shopping for Christmas early) to give to friends.
The format is a simple one, each section is divided up into a varying number days, i.e. "renew" (Lent) has 40 days. Obviously, with 130 different days/words, there is not a devotion for every day of the year, but that does allow for the reader to linger over certain words, if so inclined. For each word, there is a two page spread, which begins with a relevant, short bible verse. (I can see where it would be a good further tool/devotion to write out the day's bible verse and read it over throughout the day). After that, the author shares some thoughts on that word and the day's devotion finishes up with a "message from God", as if God were giving the reader instruction and support. This book is both thoughtfully written and thought-provoking; it is a truly lovely little devotional and a wonderful way to start your day.
This is exactly the kind of book that I buy for myself, and like it so much I buy it again to give to a friend or two. It is a book that I will keep and use over and over again.
