Originally, I didn't intend to read the Curl Up and Dye series, I had read the blurbs and it just didn't seem like my kind of story. Then I saw that she had starred a new series and was happy to download Unscipted Love. I was only half way through the first chapter of Unscripted Love when I felt that I was't actually reading the first book in a series, and Chaz's friends Josh and Gabe sounded familiar to me. So I stopped reading and looked up the Curl Up and Dye series and sure enough they are all about Josh and Gabe. So I decide to give this book a go because I hate reading things out of order and feeling like I'm missing something. So I was very frustrated when I began reading this book and again, right away I felt like I was not reading the first book in a series. I did some more looking and found out there is another book that comes before this one, but the only way to read it is to visit the author's blog site.
I think it frustrated me more than normal because I recall that I gave up on her Fated Hearts series for the same reason when book six came out and it was also a spin off from a previous book called Only You. I had read Only You, but more than year had passed since then and I didn't want to read it again so I stopped at book five in the Fated Hearts series. Also frustrating that characters from that series make appearances in this series too.
That being said, I did enjoy reading the Curl Up and Dye books, and I loved the characters. I went in not expecting to like Josh very much, the snarky type usually aren't my favorite characters, but Josh grew on me very quickly. I was surprised how much I like this book, I may go back and read Only You again after all.
This story is the first in what I know is a fantastic series. Gabe Wyatt is a detective who moved to Blissville with his boyfriend Kyle from Miami, in an attempt to save their relationship, which had fizzled out. A year later and their relationship is over and Gabe finds himself...Intrigued with a fiesta salon owner.
Josh Roman aka. Jazz owns Curl Up and Dye, the best salon for miles around! He has had the worst luck with past "relationships" and he doesn't want to like or trust that what Gabe is selling is real...But his body knows what it wants even if his mind and heart aren't on board.
I love the way their relationship developed and evolved. Josh was first, snarky and sarcastic and Gabe gave it right back but he sure wasn't giving up or back down, no siree!!
I love this series and can't wait to see what happens in the future for this couple and their friends.
This is definitely a 5 star book and I highly recommend it!
Josh is an independent, successful, strong and feisty character who’s concerned about protecting his heart. Then along comes Gabe…Gabe who is more laid back, but is protective and good at what he does—and who quickly realizes his own heart has settled on Josh. Too bad Josh is dead set on not starting anything with Gabe…well, maybe a one-time thing. Okay, two times. Mmmhmm…you know where that’s heading, right?
I love the small town setting, complete with nosy neighbors and town gossip-mongers, and people who know everyone like the back of their own hands. There’s also some great supporting characters, from Josh and Gabe’s friends and co-workers to the suspects and victims. It all provides a great backdrop for the mysteries that crop up, as well as the development of Josh and Gabe’s relationship. Small towns always seem to have some of the most colorful and dramatic characters ;-)
Josh and Gabe have terrific chemistry, and it progresses from physical to emotional, even as Josh continues to try and deny anything is getting serious (or becoming anything at all) between them. And as their relationship does finally start to solidify, we get a bit of a hint at the end of the story of more to come with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end.
4 stars for Dyeing to Be Loved, and it’s a fantastic start to this series. With solid writing and enough intrigue through the story and at the very end, I’m hooked to continue on with the rest of the books. And strangely enough, I now want a dirty-talking bird…go figure. This one’s for readers 18+ for adult language and some hot and spicy sexual content.
The narration: Joel Leslie does another superb job with the narration on this one. From the easily identifiable individual character voices to the expression of their emotions, to the perfect pacing, he brought Dyeing to Be Loved to life in spectacular fashion. I hope he’ll be narrating the whole series! 5 stars for the narration!

All in all I liked it a lot, especially that it's from both Jazz and Gabe's POV.Read more
