I was so excited to read this book, I bought it the moment it came out on Amazon. I am so happy with it, but now I'm even more anxious for the next book...like, if it wasn't for the sneak peak at the end for Dying to Return, I would totally be flipping out (more than I am) right now. There was such a huge cliffhanger --- did I ever tell you guys how much I can't stand cliffys? --- and before I realized there was another page on my Kindle, I was like so pissed off at the author for doing that to me. I mean you just can't leave someone hanging like that! Let's just say when you read this be prepared to be left with more questions than answers. The origins of the Station are probably the most complex question I'm left with, as well as what's " beyond".
The book opens up where Dying to Forget left off, Sloan's arrival at the Station. Piper is so startled she shatters the slot for her volunteer case. But what's even more startling is Sloan remember's Piper. That's the thing about Piper Willow that has the "management" of the Station so interested and even a little worried, she leaves an imprint on her cases. She can impress her will on others, which makes her a great Volunteer, but that's not what the Station wants. Because of that, Niles places Piper is the "One's" building, which is where the children go to 'move on' to beyond. Piper does well at her job there but it's taxing leading children to the realm beyond, especially when such children are frightened and Piper can't tell them where exactly they are going. As Piper excels in her job and her relationship with Sloan progresses, things are put to a halt. A mysterious, glowing man appears at the Station to meet with Piper along with the Mentors. So as to prove their theory about Piper's abilities, they send her on a special case that lasts nearly a year.
When she comes back the mystery of Piper and the new, glowing man, Rush, deepen. Who is Rush, and why does he glow? And another, thing, Rush can read everything Piper thinks. He seems to be in charge of the inner workings of the Station, too. But there's more questions, as stated above, like what exactly is the Station, WHERE IS IT? What is BEYOND? Who created the Station, why, are there other stations? I could go on and on with all the questions that are nagging me right now. There's hints throughout the novel, but I believe the satisfying answers will be revealed in Dying to Return, the next book.
This book was really fun to read, and I love how there's multiple story-lines going on. When Piper is a volunteer, we take a break from her story and delve into the life of one who is suicidal. The author illustrates these feelings perfectly, and Piper is the perfect little voice inside one's head to console them and lead them to safer thought patterns. I absolutely (as if you couldn't tell yet) cannot wait for the next book. This is quickly becoming my new favorite series! So I highly recommend you guys read this series ---- like now! And if you do, and you love it as much as me, drop me a line and maybe we can bond over our love for the book and discuss theories!
The story flowed nicely and it was well written. The character Piper goes on another adventure with her job and works hard as she can. When she gets back from her assignment, there's a meeting being called due to her last assignment as this type of incident has never had happened. When Piper hears about it, she's shocked and amazed and curious and confused. Such an emotional roller coaster for her! When I read about this part of the book, I was shocked too but in a good way. So what happens now for Piper?
Remember the hot guy Sloan from the first book? Well he's back in this second one. Piper has feelings for him, will it happen? I like how Sloan and Piper connect on each other's level. They immediately understood each other so well. You got to get the book to find out if they will be together or not. It's another journey in Piper's life.
There's another aspect of the book on the matter's of Piper's job which leads to find out that she is different. How is she different? It's amazing what she finds out of this aspect but at the same time Piper is frustrated and so forth. For me I'm curious about this as I'm sure it will be explored in the next book as I wait in great anticipation with a new character called Rush! I'm curious of this character Rush and how he will come into play.
So go get this book today! You won't regret it. Great book and Trish did a great job. The cover is amazing too even though I have the ebook! I look forward to more.
