Roller catches with every rotation

I was told by someone who puts DynoMat in a lot of autos to get the rubber roller and not a wooden one, so that’s what I did. Maybe the one he purchased 30 years ago that was built with proper craftsmanship and not on some robotic assembly line works great, but this one is not. The roller was misaligned with the pin so every time you would try to roll something out, it would catch. There was never a smooth roll. I ended up tossing this to the side and finding other household items to use to roll it smooth and flat.

Works as advertised. The tool is small which allows you to get it into smaller places. The roller is a stiff smooth rubber that won't damage paint or anything. You can use the roller to push dynamat/dynaliner flat and uniform. If you angle the side of the roller to just get the edge the rubber will squish and allow more pressure to be put down on corners and what not. The wooden handle can also be used to apply a lot of pressure in a small area. If there is something hard to reach (i.e. inner door skin) you can turn it around and try your best to squish it down. Otherwise corners, dishes, or rounded areas the handle can push the material down much better than the roller part and conform it to the panel.

If you are in a tight budget you do not need this tool. Any smooth rounded tool/item can be used to push the material down. The roller just makes the job easier as it pushes the material down in a large area quickly.

I bought this along with the Dynamat tape in a combination order from the Amazon seller. Then I misplaced it and went searching all through the garage and house. Finally, I decided that I would just go ahead, install the Dynamat and devise another solution for pressing the mat down. I came up with an old tennis ball and it worked BEAUTIFULLY! For getting the material into smaller spaces, the round of a screwdriver worked very well. After I had done the floors and above the headliner, I found the roller.

So, I'm giving this tool four stars because I wanted mat material on the inside of my doors and this tool is very good for reaching up inside the door and getting beyond where my fingers can reach. However, if I had not chosen to put mat in those hard to reach areas, this tool would have been completely unnecessary.

The tool is quite small and it is very well made. So those YouTube videos that show guys using cheaper versions from the Dollar store or Harbor Freight are using lighter duty rollers that are larger in size and may not fit up into the inside of the doors. You'll have to decide for yourself.

So, the bottom line is that, if you are a professional and do a lot of Dynamat applications for customers, this tool will be invaluable, it's tough strong and will last for years. However, if you are a Do-it-yourselfer like I am, no so much.

The quality of the materials used in this thing are very good but the build is kinda crappy. After firmly pressing down on this thing and rolling it, the wheel binds and you have to constantly flip it over so it can move again - very annoying. This thing is nice to have to apply sound dampening material but it isn't necessary - you can use so many other rounded objects to do the job - my advice is to save your money on this thing - you can easily do the job without it.

owies. this is supposed to help you roll in dynamat, etc. but? the handle is kinda not ergo, the bracket that holds the wheel cuts your hands if you put too much pressure on it. I ended up using a tennis ball to smooth out the install. cheaper, easier to hold, much less ouchie

Rolled the hell out of my knock off dynamat. I thought i may have some problems since the dynamat i was using wasnt actually dynamat, but what do you know it works on all of that aluminum faced sticky sound deadening rubber matt stuff. I bet this roller isnt even made by dynamat its prob made in some chinese factory with the rest of them and gets a fancy paper label on it packaging.

Doing it job. But the rubber rolled slides back and forward on tube it putted on. So you have to slip it from time to time. rubber is dense but soft enough to not to leave any traces on contact with a metal. Rounded handle make application into hard to follow edges an amazingly easy process.

If you're installing Dynamat, you need this tool. The roller ensures that you get the Dynamat stuck down to the panels completely. Unlike the cheaper, wooden rollers available, the Dyna-Roller's rubber wheel is soft enough to conform to uneven panels but stiff enough to apply the pressure down. I'm only giving it 4-stars though because of the handle - it's made of wood and is strong and fits the hand well, but it's smooth and sometimes hard to get a good grip when trying to work in the confined spaces of a door panel. If you've spent the money to buy Dynamat to improve your vehicle, don't go cheap with some $4 wallpaper roller - get the right tool for the job.

I love this tool. It's so simple and yes, you can use other products you already have at home to achieve a similar result, but this is just nicer to use. The rubber wheel won't scratch any adjacent paint which is nice. I read some other reviews where people said the pins holding the roller would separate when pressing hard. I didn't observe this. I was pressing pretty hard when I used it and I had no issues. Maybe those people got a knock off or maybe the design has been revised since then.
