Product Description

DC40 Multi floor is a lightweight Dyson Ball upright vacuum cleaner for every floor type. The machine’s cleaner head has an active base place, which self-adjusts automatically for optimal contact with all floor types. On hard floors the base plate lowers to create an efficient seal, and the brush bar lifts clear off the floor to protect delicate surfaces. On carpet, the base plate rises and the brush bar lowers for optimum bristle penetration- removing ground-in dirt and pet hair from different depths of carpet pile. And because the cleaner head adjusts automatically, there are no fiddly dials and you don’t need to bend down to make adjustments.

Dyson cyclones capture more dirt than any other cyclone. DC40 Multi floor has Radial Root Cyclone technology with remodeled airflows to maximize suction power. DC40 Multi floor also has patented Ball technology. It turns on the spot, which allows you to maneuver more easily around obstacles and into awkward spaces. And because the motor and other key components are located inside the ball, the machine has a lower center of gravity- making it even easier to steer.

Patented Dyson Technology:

Dyson engineers are constantly testing and inventing, trying to find new ways to make their technology better. As they work, they file patent applications to protect their inventions from copycat manufacturers. That’s why the only place you’ll find Dyson technology is inside a Dyson machine.

New Radial Root Cyclone technology
Ordinary vacuum cleaners rely on bags to trap dust and dirt. As you use them, the tiny holes in the bag clog up with particles of dust. This restricts the flow of air, so the vacuum cleaner loses suction. Dyson vacuum cleaners don’t rely on bags to trap dust and dirt. They use cyclone technology, which spins the air at incredibly high speeds. The cyclones inside a Dyson vacuum cleaner generate centrifugal forces many thousands of times the force of gravity. Dust, dirt and pet hair are flung out of the airflow and straight into the bin. No bag. No loss of suction.

Dyson has been continually refining cyclone technology since inventing it more than 20 years ago. DC40 Multi floor has new Radial Root Cyclone technology. Reconfigured air channels and improved flow efficiency reduce turbulence and preserve air pressure, so that the inner cyclones can extract more microscopic particles. These refinements help remove more dirt, dust, allergens and pet hair for the airflow.

Ball technology to help you steer with ease
Dyson Ball upright vacuum cleaners use patented Ball technology to overcome the steering limitations of fixed wheels. They ride on a ball, which turns on the spot so you can steer with ease, changing direction with just a turn of the wrist.

The ball itself is made of glass-reinforced polypropylene- the same material used in the manufacture of car dashboards. It combines high impact strength with the resistance to distortion. The ball also holds the heaviest component, (the motor), positioned towards the base for a lower center of gravity and greater stability.

DC40 Multi Floor Bundle Product Features:

Self-adjusting cleaner head
Many upright vacuum cleaners use fixed settings and their cleaner heads don’t self-adjust to different floor types. And the bigger the gap between the cleaner head and floor, the more suction power is wasted. DC40 Multi floor has an active base plate. It creates the optimal cleaner head contact for every floor type, reducing air leaks and retaining suction power on all floor types- wood, carpet, vinyl and tile.

Instant release wand
DC40 Multi floor has an instant release, long reach wand for cleaning stairs and awkward areas- it stretches up to 5 times in length. There are no separate parts to assemble.

DC40 Multi floor comes with the following Dyson tools and accessories:
  • Articulating hard floor tool - Pivots 180 degrees to reach hard to reach places
  • Soft dusting brush - Soft bristles to gently dust around the home
  • Mattress tool - Wide head and lightweight design for easy cleaning
  • Flexi-crevice tool - Brush attachment for tight spaces and dusty corners
  • Combination tool - Debris nozzle that converts to brush for dusting
  • Stair tool - Remove dirt and dust from corners and against vertical edges of stairs
Approved for allergy sufferers
All new Dyson upright and canister vacuums are certified asthma & allergy friendly by the Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America. Dyson cyclones capture microscopic particles down to 0.5 microns in size, including pollen, mold and bacteria.

No extra costs
Other vacuum cleaners are still designed to need replacement bags and filters- and the cost soon adds up. Dyson vacuums don’t have bags and have washable filters, so there are no extra costs..

5 year parts and labor warranty
Your Dyson vacuum cleaner is likely to take a few knocks and bashes during everyday use- but that’s nothing compared to what Dyson puts its machines through during testing and development. All Dyson vacuum cleaners undergo a lengthy and rigorous testing program. That’s why DC40 Multi floor comes with a 5 year warranty- parts and labor guaranteed by Dyson.

I was very excited when I purchased this vacuum but I was sadly disappointed. The opening on the bottom to suck in stuff from the carpet i.e., dirt, pet fur etc. is so tiny that it just keeps getting clogged and i literally have to stop every few minutes or so just to clean it. If you are using only the hose then it is wonderful but that's an awful lot of money to invest in just the hose section. Don't wast your money on this vacuum.

Pros:
* I prefer to vacuum my hard floors (with the brushes off, of course). The edge of this vacuum cleaner fits underneath my kitchen cabinet edges, so I don't have to get out the attachments to vacuum my kitchen!
* Super maneuverable around furniture, toys, etc.
* Doesn't lift up the edges of rugs & mats like all of my other vacuums have.
* Light enough that it almost never bothers my back to carry it around.
* Smaller, or at least less noticeable, to store in a corner. I do actually have a spot in a closet to put it, but often it just doesn't get there and that's ok.
* Nice color - also a plus since it ends up sitting in the living room corner fairly often.
* I can get some of my old Kenmore attachments to work with the hose of the Dyson.
* Dust bin is really easy to empty and does not make a big mess in the process

Cons:
* Attachment hose is stiff.
* Attachments are not shaped in ways that make them as useful to me as others I've had. An example of this is the crevice wand. A crevice wand is something I use really often; it's one of my go-to tools along baseboards, under furniture, and between cushions. However, this vacuum has it compounded with this little brush tip that can be slid to the end or pulled back to expose the actual crevice wand tip. However, the brush often slides back to the end on me while I'm using the crevice tool and is sometimes a little tricky to get pulled back. I'd rather just have a plain old simple crevice tool. Also, I got the extra accessory bundle, and have not used but one of those tools in the 8 months I've owned this. They just aren't as useful of shapes as my older Kenmore attachments.

Overall, I'm really glad we got this vacuum. It is really maneuverable and lightweight, which is the main thing that appealed to me. Attachments always seem to be less-than-perfect on vacuums, this being no exception, but at least this one is a really nice upright vacuum.

It is SHOCKING how much dust and dirt this thing is constantly picking up. We will empty the container, vacuum a room, and you can visibily see the dirt it's picked up after just one room. Some people say that you pay for the Dyson name alone and it's not any better than other vacuums on the market. I respectfully disagree with the naysayers. I'm no expert but in my experience I have had NOTHING compare to the performance of this vacuum. We have very thick carpet and went through 4 different vaccums including an expensive commercial grade vaccum. Not one of them (Hoover, Electrolux, Sanitare, Kenmore) could perform half as well as this machine.

Dyson's support is second to none as well. We had an issue with the kickstand not holding the vaccum after about 18 months. They repaired the vacuum with a local repair shop without hassle and even provided a loaner while it was being serviced.

I LOVE my Dysons. I have two. A smaller one for the upstairs and a larger one for the larger areas in the house. They work equally well despite being smaller that the full size. Bought on a Gold Box deal so feel like I got an exceptionally great deal. Well worth the money.

The opening for the vacuum is too low, you can't roll over small shredded up cardboard from a cat scratch pad. The vacuum really just pushes it out of the way. Also, the opening that leads from the swivel to the container is way too small. I took the vacuum apart and removed some pieces of plastic out of the way, it helped making the vacuum a little more efficient. Still, though, the inability for the vacuum to pick up anything other than small pieces of dirt is a good reason to not get this vacuum. I wish I had bought another panasonic. On a side note, its a lot more fun to vacuum with the swivel ball allowing you to take the corners really quickly.

My 2 year old has named the vacuum and he lives up to the astute name. This vacuum is amazing. Super powerful and sleek. The hose and attachments can be hard to wrangle but it's worth the bit of sweat after you see what its sucked it. Shocking to see the amount of dirt and dust we lived with. Ick. Get this vacuum!

Used only a few days now, but I am really impressed with the suction and overall operation. We ran over over some carpet with the Hoover this is replacing until it was picking up nothing, then ran the Dyson. The Dyson picked up a ton of dust and dirt. So we emptied the bin and ran the Dyson again and it picked up nothing. It appears, therefore, to have both done a thorough job and a much better job than the Hoover. Same for a tiled area. In that case, the Dyson picked up some bugs and pebbles that the Hoover just pushed around. To be fair, it's not an Apples to Apples comparison, because the bag-less Hoover is about three years old.

Initial impressions, then...

Pros:
- Amazingly powerful suction
- Seems to do a fantastic job
- Very light
- Maneuvers well - love the ball concept
- Doesn't leave those lines on the carpet*

Cons:
- No place to store all the accessories
- Cord is a little short
- I know it's been in museums and such, but it looks like a cheesy sic-fi prop to me

* Some people may see this as a con. Personally, I can't stand when the carpet has those "freshly vacuumed" lines, then someone walks through the room a few times, leaving an uncomfortable tension between the week-old pattern around the low traffic areas and the trampled thoroughfares.
