First, the wand is too short. I get spiderwebs in certain places and the Hoover had a long attachment which made it easy to get into places behind the dryer and in ceiling corners to suck up the webs. This one is a royal pain. Too stiff and too short, often the vacuum plops over to a side.
I spilled a glass of wine and went to my go-to remedy which I had done many times before with the Hoover: pour baking soda on the stain, let it dry and vacuum up the wine infused baking soda. I did this with the Dyson and there was baking soda wine mixture is in every crack and crevice of this thing. I could see it in the brush roll.. It took me two hours to get all the baking soda caked inside the brush roll holder and outside of the canister. I had to take it apart and use a toothbrush, pipe cleaner, paper towels to get into hard places. Isn't a vacuum supposed to suck it all into the INSIDE of the canister? If this thing was efficient, all the powder would not have visible through the plastic brushroll after I vacuumed the baking soda up, it would have ALL come out when I emptied the canister. It seems like half the baking powder went into the canister, the rest was sprayed up into various places within the vacuum. While I was cleaning outside the canister, I noticed a nice little crack in the plastic. I've had this thing five months and I've taken good care of it. My place is only about 400 square feet. I can only guess this happened one of the times the vacuum fell over when I was trying to reach the wand up into the ceiling corners.. That's pretty cheap.
Yes, it's conveniently sized and designed but it's definitely lacking and not worth the high price tag. If I knew five months ago what I know now, I'd have gone with another manufacturer. Part of me wanted to give this thing a 2 not a 3 but I think 2.5 is probably more accurate and this is a generous rating.
This Dyson has thoroughly impressed me with how well it cleans. Right after moving in I "cleaned" my entire apartment with my battery-powered Shark that claims to "pick up what your vacuum cleaner misses!" and then I went back over it with my Dyson....BIG difference!!! I did not realize how much dust and how many hairballs were in the carpet (makes me question if they even cleaned after the last tenant moved out!!).
My biggest gripe is that the hose extension is very, VERY awkward to use, as it collapses inside the hose tube and bends at really weird angles. It's difficult to extend the hose without tipping over the vacuum. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong, but that is certainly something Dyson could improve.
Unlike other users, I had no problems assembling this vacuum. This is the first time in my life I've done so, and it maybe took 20 minutes? The most time consuming part was connecting the brush head, but I eventually watched the official Dyson video and figured it out. I like how sleek this vacuum and agile this vacuum is. It is slightly heavier and not as "low center-of-gravity" as Dyson claims, but it'll help me to workout I suppose!! The cord length is adequate, but I suppose it could be longer. I have an 1100 sqft apartment and my largest room is a living/dining room that is about 30ft wide at the longest. I do not like having to un-plug the cord each time, but I guess that's just part of life.
I've only had this a week and can't think of anything else, but will update my review if anything pertinent pops up. As usual, Amazon's shipping was bloody amazing ---- this product (along with a few others) was ordered at 8:30PM on a Tuesday night and I had it at my doorstop, very properly packaged and punctually delivered. It still amazes me how fast amazon can deliver something, and that's what keeps me coming back for more!! (Granted, having Amazon Prime helps a lot!!)
As I mentioned, I have had this vacuum for a little under a year.
Recently the latch button on the cyclone assembly has gone missing, I assume it popped out while somebody was emptying the bin and fell in the trash unnoticed. At any rate, the button is no longer there, and so the assembly can no longer be attached to the body.
I figured this should be no problem to replace, after all I do have a 5 year warranty.
I called up, and the representative told me that this is "not considered a manufacturer defect" because "with the type of plastic we use that could never happen by itself" and that in order to replace the button I would have to buy a whole new cyclone assembly for over $90. Never mind the fact that the button that went missing is contained within a plastic handle that is easily detachable from the cyclone assembly.
The 5 year warranty is a sham. don't believe the hype.

Couldn't be happier with it. Goes everywhere you need to it go, the detachable hose gets to all the hard to reach places and the suction is fantastic.
