Marie Jenner n’a jamais vraiment été chanceuse. Son emploi est nul. Son appartement – celui dont le bail ne peut pas être rompu – est hanté. Pire encore, sa mère ne cesse de lui rebattre les oreilles pour la convaincre de joindre « l’entreprise familiale ». Puisqu’il s’agit de faire passer les esprits des morts au prochain plan d’existence, un boulot qui, en passant, ne paie pas, Marine n’est particulièrement intéressée. Non, elle veut un emploi normal, une vie normale. Est-ce vraiment trop demander?

Apparemment, oui. Même lorsqu’elle postule l’emploi de ses rêves, Marie ne reçoit pas ce qu’elle souhaitait. Enfin, pas entièrement… Elle décroche le poste, mais elle récolte en même temps un fantôme. Farley Hewitt, le concierge récemment décédé du bâtiment, veut qu’elle prouve qu’il n’est pas mort par accident et Marie est à peu près certaine qu’il va la harceler jusqu’à ce qu’elle y parvienne.

Tout ce que Marie désire, c’est une vie normale. Toutefois, les astres ne s’alignent pas en sa faveur.
