These bars are somewhat better than other low-carb bars: Crunchy texture is nice and taste is good. Unfortunately they are loaded with 19 grams of poop-inducing Maltitol, not the friendlier Erythritol. Still I enjoy them - mainly in the privacy of my small office LOL

First, the bars taste good, just pick a flavor you like. Second, the nutrition mix is perfect with very low carbs and a good protein weight. I could buy more expensive bars elsewhere, with slightly better stats, but these are great!

Some report melting problems. When it is hot and you get a shipment, don't open the box or take the shrink wrap off (if it is), just put it in the freezer for an hour or so, then sit on the counter. The chocolate and fill will return to solid form, and not stick to the wrappers when you unwrap a bar to eat it.

I've been using these kinds of products for 40 years (Joe Weider and York Barbell started it all) and the EAS bars are fantastic, newbies just need to learn how to deal with summer heat issues.

I've tried a lot of protein bars. I have Metabolic Syndrome, and I need to have snacks between meals to keep my sugar steady and my appetite somewhat under control.

Well, let's face it, a lot of those low-carb bars tastes pretty funky. Either dry and with a sort of weird aftertaste, or not chocolatey enough, or not sweet enough to tame a sweet-craving, etc.

I just tried these yesterday. The market had run out of the ones I usually get (The South Beach) and so I bought this one. (I like the EAS protein drink that tastes like Yahoo!, so I figured I'd give it a go.)

What a surprise. These are way, way, way better than any I've tried, including Pure Protein, Myoplex, Atkins, Luna, etc, and even the South Beach ones.

If you are a person who likes chocolate meal bars for snacks (or meal replacements), then trust me, these taste VERY chocolatey, have a really nice texture (not overly chewy, not dry, not gunky), and it actually serves to satisfy the need for something sweet and desserty. Really nice. It's not low-fat, though, so keep that in mind. And if you have thyroid issues or sensitivity to SOY products, forget it. The first ingredient is a protein blend with soy. Note: If you have thyroid issues, keep soy intake to minimal or none. I have thyroid issues, so for me, this would be an occasional treat to keep me from going piggers over chocolate or candy or cake.

This has maltitol, and if you're sensitive or get gastric disturbances from that (some do), watch intake. Would not recommend more than one bar a day, for sure, if you get the ickies from maltitol.

First - the price on Amazon isn't the best. I'm ok with paying $20 or so for the 12 bars, because the standard free shipping from Amazon is always super fast to me. I see them for $16 and change on at least one other website for the same product and quantity.

Mostly, I wanted to comment on the stuff you can't tell from the label. Although, I'll say that 240 calories for only 17 grams of protein is kinda high. This thing, to me, is like eating a brownie. It's a little chewier, of course, but it's a GREAT satisfying chocolatey bar that does not taste like diet food or like I'm eating sugar substitute, etc. It's covered in a layer of chocolate on one side, and has tiny chocolate chips all mixed in. Like others have said, it'll get soft in the shipping, so stick in the fridge for an hour or two when you receive them, so the chocolate doesn't stick to the wrapper. This is a great thing to keep around as a healthier type of snack when you're having a chocolate need and don't want to go nuts on a pan full of brownies. EVen at my worst, I never feel the need to eat more than one. The flavor is really great, and still the bar has nutrients and protein in it, way better than any other chocolate thing I could reach for. This is pure damage control for me. And, it also has 30% of your daily iron - take that, brownies!

The downside - well, this is relative. If you're comparing it to brownies, there's no downside. Give me this any day. But, on its own, you do have to pay attention to the label. It is relatively high in saturated fat. For only 240 cals out of a single day's alotment, it has 4.5 grams of saturated fat (the goal is 20 grams or less, for a regular 2000-cal diet). So, it's almost 1/4. That's not great.

I've been happy with the EAS CarbControl bars I've purchased from Amazon. They're pretty fresh (sometimes the ones I get from WalMart are not so much) and I've always loved the product because they're so protein and fiber-heavy that they leave me satisfied until lunch. I just wish they'd stick to their flavors. Whenever I get to really liking one (like the old chocolate strawberry mousse - I really miss that one) they discontinue it and I have to find another. This is the best chocolate-flavored one I've found.
