From the manufacturer
Bonding the membrane to both the outer fabric and inner lining ensures no movement between layers, meaning less wear and tear.
The fabric is an extremely thin membrane that's durably 100% waterproof, windproof and breathable.
It has over 9 billion pores per square inch.
We layer the membrane into leather uppers or laminate it to textiles inside the upper, before carefully sealing it.
Make a mark on the trails in this lightweight, yet heavy duty hiking shoe from ECCO.

But, I'm not afraid to be critical when it is merited. These shoes are hard core: they have great traction, are extremely warm (but breathable), waterproof, and sturdy -- definitely a crappy-weather staple for the slush-bound denizens of the North. However, they are extremely stiff and the hard heel doesn't provide much cushion when beating the pavement. They are also a bit heavy for a hiking shoe.
While these criticisms are accurate, they don't detract from what Ecco offers here: a hard core shoe for hard core weather.
My boyfriend wears US size 7. I bought size 40 since it was translated on ECCO web site as 6- 6.5. I think it would be correct to call them men's size 7.5. The shoes fit comfortably and do not require breaking in. They are too large, but can be warn with the thick sock, so we are keeping them.
The looks are of the rugged hiking shoes, not theater shoes, but they don't particularly stand out, so I guess comfort wins over looks.
We have not traveled with them yet, so not sure how my boyfriend will feel after a day of trotting through the streets of the European cities.
I've put over 600 miles on them (walking) in the past 8 months and they still look and feel good. I've put them to the test with PNW rainstorms and flooded sidewalks. My toes stayed dry every time.
