This is a very good mouse to use while couch surfing, because it can be used [with or without holding it in mid-air] to track and scroll on your monitor or TV. I usually use this while sitting down in a rocking chair, recliner, or while laying down. I can also use it right-handed or left-handed, which is a good feature for me.
Be sure to read the small card that came with it and watch the second video on Amazon to figure out which buttons have which function. It does have a learning curve to figure out how to use it and become comfortable using it. Don’t throw out the packaging until AFTER you find the transmittal dongle. It is not in a slot in the mouse itself. I just wish it would shut itself off after 15 minutes of inactivity. Use rechargeable batteries. It must be turned off manually, so if you forget...
I read the reviews before I bought this. They are VERY helpful with this product. Here is a recap:
1) briannab3d writes "Must replace trackball with 3/4 inch ball bearing". This swap-out fixes the tragic jitter problem of the slightly undersized plastic trackball that ships with this mouse. The extra play makes successfully clicking on anything difficult. But, with the 3/4 stainless steel replacement ball (available on Amazon, for example, Three 3/4" Inch Stainless Steel Bearing Balls G25), it tracks around the page and clicks flawlessly. This also obviates the track-ball problem/solution that C R. recommended, of adding dots onto the track-ball. That is not needed with the stainless steel one.
2) Many people reported that it stopped working. Other reviews said to unplug the transmitter dongle from your computer’s USB port and plug it back in! That should fix that problem. And if you can use the USB port on the FRONT of your computer, I think this mouse works even better regarding the need to “reset” it.
3) Ariel Fisher describes in detail how to open the tract-ball enclosure and clean it. This is the best description I have ever found for how to clean it. "FYI, to clean the mouse if it gets sluggish, use a PEN point in the small hole to the left of the trackball to turn the black ring around the ball counterclockwise slightly. that will unlock the ring, then use a pin to pry the ring off and the ball will pop out. use a pin and a swab to carefully clean the 3 tiny rollers inside and make sure the center hole is clean, no debris on the lens - look at it under good light and make SURE. a tiny bit of gunk on that lens will totally ruin the responsiveness. Under normal use most folks should clean the inside once or twice a year."
4) Ariel Fisher also suggests that, "To make it PERFECT, i wish the buttons were assignable so i could move the right and left click buttons to the top 2, and i wish it came in other colors (red, pink, blue). ").
5) Look closely INSIDE the finger trigger hole. There is a little button to press to change the DPI setting. There are also indicator lights under the scroll up-down wheel to indicate which DPI setting is being selected as you click, click, click on that "hidden" button in the finger trigger hole. You can also change the setting in your computer's mouse speed to find what works best for you. I moved it into a much slower tracking speed setting. Maybe do both of these things to get it perfect for you?

Get one or two! Solved my wrist sore/pain problem.
Buy one, and 2 AAA rechargeable batteries with it.Background: I use a traditional mouse at work all day (6+ hours), and after work (another 4+ hours daily). At home, I use the Logi M570 trackball, a vertical ergonomic mouse, and a regular mouse rotating around when my right hand is sore from extended usage.With that said, I been searching a long time for an additional (4th) mouse that allow my hand to be at a different angle and position while operating it…to mitigate pain from my hand (wrist/palm area). I think this handheld trackball mouse does it for me, and surprisingly ambidextrous, I operate it in my left hand without issues, which was not expected. Great bonus!After 2 months of use, I am now down to using mainly this handheld mouse, and one traditional mouse for more precision work (not have to rotate to the vertical and M570 trackball any more).Pros:-Allow the cursor to be controlled however you’re comfortable resting in your hands! Very flexible and limitless positions.-Ambidextrous, can be operated by left/right hand.-Adjustable cursor speed (hard to find at first, little button in front of the left click, check my photo)Cons:-Battery life is very short, only last days…maybe a week. Suggest to get two rechargeable AAA batteries (have one on standby).-Wish the bottom of the mouse is smaller (the part close to your palm and where the battery goes).-The trackball is very hard to get out (for cleaning), because you have to twist to unlock and there isn’t much you can grip on to (I leave it in the unlock position, and just pop it upside-down to take out the ball by hitting it).-Fit and finish can be improved, sharp edge on the front of my mouse.-It doesn’t register double click as well as other name branded mouse, but I can live with it. (I would pay an extra $10 for better connectivity, fit/finish, and a back button…not even complaining about the battery life lol –Logi need to adopt this design!!).Lastly, I see that other reviews complained of jitter, which I have not experienced…possibly because I got the red ball version, instead of the green ball?This model (Y-10W) does not have the laser, look for model# Y-10L for the laser version.
