I have had mine for a year and a half now. Other than some very faint discoloration from tea staining it's like new, including the design on the side! I have never dropped it more than a few inches and have never put it through a dishwasher but it has seen hot liquid on average of every other day. It has traveled the world. I use metal utensils to stir things in it all the time. I often accidentally set it down quite hard on hard surfaces. I have left things to dry in it. It still holds.
Based on reviews and experience it seems that with any cheaper glass product like this that cant go through rigorous glass stress QC, especially one that's had a handle added, imperfections are possible. You have the chance of receiving one that might shatter easily, or could get one that will last years. In this reviewer's experience it is possible to receive an extremely durable one. Take that for what you will.

My husband bought this for me for Christmas. I'm a scientist and I love mugs so this was the PERFECT gift! I love making 500mL of hot chocolate on a cold night! ;) It has held up perfectly well to many hot beverages, microwaves and dishwasher cycles over the last year. I've gotten a lot of compliments and had lots of people ask me where it came from. Yes, I'm a nerd, but I embrace it! The only thing I would change about this mug is to make a thicker handle as it's pretty thin and less easy/comfortable to hold than your typical mug, but it's not really that big of a problem. It's strong enough to support a full mug and looks cool.
