Elegoo Industries
Ingenious and fun DIY electronics and Robot kits.
Compatibility with Official Arduino IDE, Software, Sendsors and Codes
Arduino is an open-source platform used for building electronics projects. Arduino consists of both a physical programmable circuit board (often referred to as a microcontroller) and a piece of software, or IDE (Integrated Development Environment) that runs on your computer, used to write and upload computer code to the physical board.
For the reason of open source, the manufacture of Arduino boards and software distribution by anyone is permitted. Arduino boards are available commercially in preassembled form, or as do-it-yourself (DIY) kits.
Elegoo is one of the manufacturer on the market, whose clone products are compatible with the official Arduinomicrocontroller boards, they can use the official Arduino software, sensors and codes.
Learn Electronics and Programming with ELEGOO
The UNO boards can be used as the brains behind almost any electronics project. UNO can interact with buttons, LEDs, motors, speakers, GPS units, cameras, the internet, and even your smart-phone or your TV! By connecting the UNO board with a personal computer via a USB cable and uploading programs to the board, users can create digital devices and interactive objects that can sense and control objects in the physical and digital world like robots or even honest fortune-telling machines.
For this Elegoo Super Starter Kit, we provide a 24-lesson tutorial, introducing the basic setting of the software IDE, the working principles of the sensors and the simple program to enable the UNO board to control the sensors.
This Kit is suitable for 10-year-old and up. Younger kids should be under supervision and guidance of adults.

74HC595 and LEDs74HC595 is a Serial to Parallel Converter which has eight outputs (perfect) and three inputs that you use to feed data into it a bit at a time. This chip makes it a little slower to drive the LEDs (you can only change the LEDs about 500,000 times a second instead of 8,000,000 a second) but it's still really fast, way faster than humans can detect, so it's worth it. 74HC595 shift register is a type of chip that holds what can be thought of as eight memory locations, each of which can either be a 1 or a 0. To set each of these values on or off, we feed in the data using the 'Data' and 'Clock' pins of the chip. |
4 digit 7 segment display7 segment displays consist of 7 LEDs, called segments, arranged in the shape of an “8”. Most 7-segment displays actually have 8 segments, with a dot on the right side of the digit that serves as a decimal point. When using 4-digit 7-segment display, the common anode or common cathode pin is used to control which digit is displayed. Even though there is only one digit working, the principle of Persistence of Vision enables you to see all numbers displayed because each the scanning speed is so fast that you hardly notice the intervals. By building the circuit and editing the program, users can make a simple display showing certain numbers, or more complexly, a count-up timer or a elecrical rolling dice. |
Stepper MotorStepper motors are DC motors that move in discrete steps. They have multiple coils that are organized in groups called "phases". By energizing each phase in sequence, the motor will rotate, one step at a time. With a computer controlled stepping you can achieve very precise positioning and/or speed control. For this reason, stepper motors are the motor of choice for many precision motion control applications. the simplest way of interfacing a unipolar stepper motor to UNO board is to use a breakout for ULN2003A transistor array chip, applying voltage to each of the coils in a specific sequence. |

This is absolutely amazing! I remember dismantling remote control cars as a kid, to see the wires and motors, but never being able to put everything back in working order. This set is the answer to that curiosity (answering questions like: "how does this work?")-- but now kids can build a device from the circuits up, rather than deconstruct their RC cars and other devices.
My son worked on this until the wee hours of the morning, then got right back to work the next morning. We hardly saw him until he finished the kit and asked for the kit to start the next stage. It's crazy how my kid already knows how to program a robot, and I can barely build a potato battery.
We've already purchased the next kit (a remote control robot/car), and we'll try to keep a kit lined up for each stage, so that his passion doesn't diminish between projects.

When I ordered this, I figured it would be some cheap little (you get what you pay for) kit. I figured it would at least be good enough to dip my hand into the Arduino world. Then when it arrived, I quickly realized this isn't some little makeshift kit. This project kit comes with everything you could need to get you started with learning arduino. Everything in the kit was of good/excellent quality. There are a lot of tutorials online to tinker with all the sensors, motors, lcds, etc in this kit. I've learned so much in the few days that I have had this. I decided to learn Arduino so I could build a low voltage cutoff switch into my solar equipment. After just a few days of learning Arduino hardware and software, I feel like I have 90% of the knowledge I need for my first project. Wish me luck!

I hadn't given the educational materials much thought and figured I'd lean on the Arduino website/community for most of my learning. However, I was quite pleased to find the included tutorials and examples were extensive and enjoyable, and I spent most of a weekend going through all 24 of the lessons (Note: I downloaded latest versions directly from the manufacturer website since I don't have a CD-ROM drive). The materials come in several different languages, and also include the datasheets for each of the components. The lessons teach you how to load required code libraries, and generally include them in each folder, however, I ran into some minor issues with a lesson containing outdated information/libraries. It was easy enough to google and find the fix, but a beginner could avoid the frustration by just skipping over that lesson and they wouldn't be out much. Overall, I highly recommend this as a starter kit for anyone looking to get started with Arduino.

A really great kit with everything you need to get started. The kit contains several types of sensors to experiment with, and provides extensive code examples and tutorials to walk you through several different projects. I purchased this kit as a newcomer to Arduino because I wanted the Uno R3 board and considered the extras (breadboard, jumper wires, sensors, etc.) to be a good starting point for a few extra dollars. The board is good quality, and I've had 0 issues.

I am giving this five stars because I messed with the board and most of the sensors, and they work flawlessly. Most of the lower reviews are because of the CD being blank or the documentation being confusing.
I didn't use the CD that came with it, or any of the documentation or tutorials. I have been working through some Youtube tutorials for Arduino and that has served me well enough.
I was thinking about getting one of these for my 10 year old nephew, so I bought this one for myself to see if it is age appropriate. I don't really think he'd have the attention span for it yet, but I've been having a great time with it.
I recommend buying some more jumper wires and breadboards- the kit comes with plenty for simple projects but I have like 5 different things going on and am almost out of jumper wires.

Bought this kit on cyber Monday for about $7 cheaper than current list price. Although this Chinese Arduino clone vendor is charging such a reduced fee for this package, the buyer gets a heck of a lot of cool components in here. I’d definitely pay full price all over for this kit now that I’ve explored it for a couple hours.
I am excited to go through every one of the tutorials Elegoo has published for this kit. They are concise and do a good job covering the electrical engineering principles behind the included components. I’m dropping a star only because they could improve the docs in regards to installing and configuring the Arduino IDE on the Mac OS platform. Instead, they detail the windows considerations and then suggest the Mac settings will be similar. That is a euphemism for “You hafta figure it out yourself.” Fortunately for my, setting up the Arduino IDE on my PowerBook just worked and I ran into zero snags.
UPDATE: I want to also mention the advantage of going with an Arduino vs a Raspberry Pi or BeagleBoard (I own many of both those). For the beginner tinkerer, the Arduino reduces the dimensions of complexity getting your program into the device and doing things. Raspberry Pi, etc. are very good for higher-performance applications, but are overkill for the type of projects you would put together with these kinds of parts. What I'm trying to say is the Arduino platform is a great starting point and offers lightweight energy requirements (can be battery powered). All the parts in this kit are fully compatible with Raspberry Pi and BeagleBoard, so you can carry them over should you decide to delve into the other platforms.
UPDATE 2/28/2018: I have spent perhaps a dozen hours with this kit and continue to enjoy the collection of parts and appreciate the tutorials. The Arduino UNO is a very capable microprocessor board, but it does offer a finite amount of input / output pins. As the tutorial progresses into implementations that exceed the built-in ports, they introduce this other chip that can take commands and forward signals to additional, external pins. This allows output to go to multiple devices (LEDs, stepper motors, etc.) beyond what would be available with just the built-in pins. Working your program code around this constraint offers a fun dimensional puzzle. For my non-experimental projects, I have chosen to go the route of the Arduino Mega board that offers a vast amount of additional pins than the UNO. The model sold by Elegoo on Amazon is only about $14, so that pricing is very attractive for reducing the complexity of my logic control coding.

Great package to provide a huge amount of entetainment and learning
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 1, 2018Verified Purchase
Rarely do i review a product but i think this deserves one. For under £30.00 this is a great bit of kit. I bought it for my 11 year old daughter who is fairly bright, to give her an insight into coding, computers and electronics. As someone with basic knowledge myself, an ideal thing for both of us to work through together. The principle of the arduino board and kit is that you can write a basic program that "does physical stuff".
Rather than doing code on a computer, that runs on a computer and outputs on a computer, writing code on the arduino can turn led lights on and off, motors, sensors etc. Its basic but can be built up to being complicated. With attention spans being short with children, within 20 minutes of opening the box, you should have your first program of blinking an led light on and off by your own code.
There is an awful lot of kit in the box and we are trying to work our way through properly and are still on coding led lights, but there are led displays, motors, heat and distance sensors etc etc. and a 164 page manual and all the code done for you if required. However you won't learn that well copy and pasting code, so to get the most out of it, treat it a a learning project and either buy a book or like us, follow a youtube course, there are a lot out there but we are doing some bloke called paul mcwhorter who starts from scratch and builds up through each lesson with about 28 videos. I'm not saying his are the best, but it suits me and my daughter, and its free.
As Paul says in his first video, if you can turn an led light on and off, you can do a sensor, a motor, so with those three you could build a basic robot or a weather station or whatever your ideas take. Once we have finished working through Pauls videos, we will then work through the pdf file of all the ones Elegoo provide that use all the products included in the box.
So to conclude, the elegoo box has in it almost everything you could want to get you going, it should provide hundreds of hours of fun and frustration and learning to get your projects working for under £30.00. Huge amounts of support are available free online and its relatively simple to get started with some basic computer knowledge and basic practical skills. highly recommended.

So far okay. The potentiometer that's included is garbage, in both format, and utility. Only reason for three Stars. Costs pennies in reality to include quality parts.
Also the "instructional CD" is not instructional, more of a project list, and code examples. And full of useless info that made me not even extract. ,(Red flag to have compressed data on CD anyway)
**Edit down to 2 starts. the humidity sensor doesn't work at all. more money to replace that. I have now officially spent half the original price in replacement parts.
Second edit one star. Giving me the run-around on replacement. Will avoid company entirely from now on"

A Budget Alternative To The Arduino
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 16, 2018Verified Purchase
I brought this because it was recommended to me by my lecturer at university. For the course I study, Digital Art and Technology, I had to produce a product that had to use a sensor to record some form of data. I went for the larger kit in case I was going to use it later in my degree. Compared to an original Arduino it’s much cheaper and better value. The project I attempted at first was using a webcam to analyse video footage but I instead developed a program that measured distance from the ultra sonic sensor included.
Performance
This board worked okay with the Arduino software. Sometimes I had to pull it out and plug it in again to get it working which was disruptive to my module. However, this sometimes happens with the original boards so it’s difficult to say if this product was to blame for not working 100% of the time.
Overall
For anyone looking for a cheaper option, or to develop an experimental product for either themselves or an educational project this would be a good choice. This pack comes with hundreds of different pieces and accessories which I still am due to use.

You could quibble with some of the components that are included but overall there's a good range of sensors, buttons, lights and motors included to build a huge range of things. Given they're basically commodity components it'd be heading for three or four stars if it weren't for a couple of other things.
First, the included guide (on CD and available for download) is good. While obviously translated, it's clear and sufficiently detailed.
And secondly, the customer service. My original kit had a few duplicate and a few missing components but emailing support quickly solved that about as painlessly as possible.
