I bought two of these because they have a convenient short length perfect for an external drive. I like the fact that it does not seem to heat up as much as the Apple cable does. I've had two of the Apple cables stop working on me. Completely stop working. The Apple cable does not fit my MacBook retina nearly as well as the Elgato cable either. The slightest bump will wiggle it just enough that my drive will lose connection and get the "improperly ejected" error message. Bottom line is that even though Apple just dropped the price and introduced a shorter version, this is a cable you should consider just because it is more reliable.
