After doing a ton of research, I ordered the Large Orthopedic Memory Foam Joint Relief Bolster Dog Bed in toffee for my dog. I have never spent anywhere near that on a dog bed (and would never admit that I did). But she LOVES it. So much so that I bought another one for my mom's dog in the licorice color. And she loves it so much that she now does not sleep on my mom's bed at night, but in the den on her new dog bed. I'm serious! And when my dog is over there - it's a battle to see who is going to get the new bed and who is going to have to lay on the old flat one.
The only problem is that I now have to buy a third one to put in my mom's bedroom so that her lab will sleep updairs with her again!!!
It's an amazing bed and totally worth the price tag. I've had it for over a month now and it still looks brand new.
UPDATE: I was just leaving another review and noticed that it's been 1.5 years since I found this product. 18 months later -- and it still looks exactly the same. I have removed the cover a few times to wash and it was easy (two different zippers - one for bolster and one for bed) and it looks great. I have purchased a total of three. Two of which are at my mom's house who has 2 90" labs - one in the living area and one in the bedroom. They always jostle to see who gets this bed. And when my dog goes for a visit, she just climbs in and shares (I attached a product picture of the two in the bed).
This was such a great investment. I would have purchased/discarded 6 cheap beds by now and spent more money. And the dogs LOVE this thing.
The main reason I decided on this particular one was the overall thickness. This is the thickest bed I have seen WITH a bolster, which my Boxer has always preferred. I agree it could be a bit longer to wrap around the bed, but he doesn't seem to care as much as I do. I think the bolster is actually thicker in person than in the pic. Also, the memory foam is really only the top 1 inch or so, and the rest is orthopedic foam, so the ad is a BIT misleading - BUT although I thought I would have wanted one entirely memory foam, now I realize it wouldn't be as good for joint support. It's just enough to give that "sinking-in" cozy feeling. At 90 lbs, he barely puts a dent in this bed - not like all the other beds I paid about the same or more for. He pretty much touched the floor on every other bed, and with his age, I just couldn't watch his discomfort anymore! He sleeps in it all day, and I swear my girls, age 9 and 6, would steal it if he ever left it! I would recommend to anyone with a larger or especially older dog.
Note to manufacturer: a quiet waterproof liner inside the cover would be a great feature, especially for puppies, older dogs, or multi dog homes where marking could be an issue! We have them on all our people beds and it would be a great enhancement.
Overall the bed has good structure after an hour or two out of the box. The bolster still hasn't come into full form (after 24 hours) and I'm not sure it will as it was extremely flat and dis-formed when it arrived.
