This book is decent for beginners, but it is not exceptionally useful for more seasoned users of finite element software. The benefits of Mechanica are clearly stated; p-element methods for convergence and geometrically linked meshes for efficient parameter optimizations. I particularly enjoyed the chapter comparing p- and h-element techniques since this difference seems unique to Mechanica. If you are a completely new user, the format of this book is great because new concepts are introduced with examples. This format has a major drawback for advanced users; useful nuggets of information (e.g. handling singularities) are buried and therefore not easy to find if you are refreshing prior knowledge. There is no index. Similarly, the book is written for integrated mode which students have access to; independent mode specific options are scattered. It would have been useful if there had been a chapter devoted purely to that mode. If you are first learning finite element software, this book may be worthwhile. However, Wildfire 4.0 is somewhat dated; while the terminology is still valid, the locations of features / menus may be different. This book would have to be coupled with up-to-date online resources, which are likely sufficient alone. There are newer updates of this book that can also be considered.

Basically I concur with the previous review; I also feel that this book is especially valuable to a designer that is not well versed in Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The author gives a good broad background for Pro/E Mechanica, dwelling more on breadth rather than depth. The book is particularly good in that the limitations of FEA are brought out and illustrated with example. Design features that produce abrupt changes in a models geometry (such as re-entrant angles) can completely skew a solution and make an answer meaningless. As stated I liked the broad treatment of most subjects as it provides a basic template to input data and analyze models of greater complexity. My prime criticism of the book is that a space was not devoted to a similar treatment of imputing data for dynamic analysis. A reasonable treatment of Modal analysis was presented and as it appears that Pro/E Mechanica uses a modal superposition method to sum dynamic loads; I believe it would have been reasonable to demonstrate the input of at least time history shock and cyclic loading.

This book is worth the money. It's a simple beginners tutorial that is pretty easy to follow. You should have a very basic understanding of what fea is before buying this book. It has a good foundation of what goes on behind the scenes in mechanica as well as what the limitations of the program are. If you want to use mechanica as a quick check and not be a pro this is a good place to start. If you want to be a pro, then spend the money to take a class.

It came on time.
It is a very good quality book. It helps to understand the Mechanica very well.
Unfortunately Mechanica is not the best software to do the Strain Analyses.

This author is very clear in his writing and is very easy to understand. I have also bought his book on Pro E Wildfire 4.0 and I would recommend any of his writings. The subject matter is easy to follow and allows for quick learning of the material.
