As Imogen works with Enver who resists any emotion, treating her with indifference and even disdain, she doesn't know what to think about him. He really lost many social skills over the years of being alone! But when the boy she once loved and thought was dead comes back to take her to the Elders as a breeder, will she be taken back to the Compound? Or will Enver realize she is worth fighting for to build a new life together?
This is an excellent book that once again pulls the reader into the story to care about these characters. I love the fact that despite the squalor and devastation of their world, there is a kindness and goodness inside them that hints of hope. Enver and Imogen, both damaged individuals, devote themselves to caring for others and bringing a little peace into the lives of the people who live in this desolate area.
Forced to run from a controlling cult when the Elders aborted her baby, Imogen did not have a strong, forceful personality in the beginning. But working as Enver’s nurse, she gained strength and confidence in herself. Enver himself did not want emotion in his life, preferring to be isolated from others. Yet his care of the injured cyborgs and his friendship with Mason and Chance (Book 1) showed the reader that he felt much more than he allowed to show. Can these two damaged souls heal each other and learn to trust? Can Imogen stay in this difficult place and find a new love with Enver? This book is so wonderful – don’t miss reading it! It is one of those special books that will touch your heart.
I love Pearl's books for many reasons, one of them being the unique spin she puts on conventional romance novel topics, in this case cyborgs. The guys in this series aren't robots, but rather humans who have various artificial appendages (no, not the one you're thinking. Lol!)
This leaves a brilliant opening for heart-wrenching backstories about how these guys came to lose parts of themselves ad gain the metal pieces and cyborg-stigma they carry around with them every day.
Another thing I love about Pearl's books, this one especially, is her heroines aren't 100% "G.I. Jane, I don't need a man in my life, I can do it all by myself, don't you dare try to help me" women. Rather, they are strong when they need to be and ask for help and seek comfort from their men when they need it...just like we all do!
Enver and Imogen had a very opposite-ends-of-the-spectrum balance to their relationship. They both cam into it very much damaged, but I really enjoyed reading how they ended up meeting somewhere in the middle.
Speaking of sexy love scenes, this book has it in spades. Sprinkled throughout in just the right places, the "physical interactions" between Enver and Imogen were used as a tool to show and solidify the deep deep love they had for each other.
This book is LOADED with action and suspense, and I was GLUED to it, especially the final conflict involving Imogen and a blast from her past.
Pearl is one of my top authors. I don't even read synopses, they're all automatic "YES I'll read it!" books! I can't wait for more, both in this series and whatever direction she takes her next series!
(I was given a copy of this book in consideration of my honest thoughts)

Good story line, really draws you in and some steamy chapters.... LAWD!
Imogen is a beautiful highly prized 'breeder' who escapes and starts to work for Enver, the ex-military medic at his hospital.
I loved how their attraction develops, friendship then love. It's not rushed.
This is one of the best cyborg series I have read and I can't wait for the next one. So good I'm going to pre-order.
Imogen was amazing. I loved her.
Highly recommend it.
