Comparing the 1D Mark IV to the III for wildlife shooting-
I have had the ID Mark IV for a year after 3 years using my MK III.

Does the MKIV focus better than the MK III? Yes, Canon did improve on the focus system. There are numerous custom functions for both of these cameras, one should take some time learning these custom functions and on what situation a shooting requires. I was a little disappointed that the MK IV did not have the newer "7D" smallest 'thread the needle' focus point choice. But it is usable on the IV only if you have certain prime, long lenses. No one understands why canon decided to do this. But the camera threads the needle pretty well with the standard single point.
Here's a helpful link:

Comparing FPS- Both cameras extremely fast focus and 10 frames per second will spoil you rotten. I consistantly get faster focus and more shots than the people I shoot with other cameras. One note on this, a slight hesitation before the first shutter release will help ensure sharper focus. If the first shutter release is not connected on the focal point yet you will have 5 OOF shots before realizing this. It takes some practice but works well. I don't miss much. Both cameras are efficient.

Both cameras are rugged and sturdy. They are meant to last. I have 300,000 actuations on my III and expect that on my IV.

The difference in final print? The MKIV of course will be a larger file, which if you are a BIF shooter your bird will be larger when cropping. Thats a big reason why I went from the MK III 10mpx to the MKIV 16 mpx.

Will the MKIV have less noise? Yes, both III and IV are fantastic, but the MK IV is even better. I have usable files for print @ ISO 6000 and higher.
