From the Manufacturer
ER - Emergency Ready Brand, by Quake Kare: Quake Kare, Inc. is the industry-leading manufacturer and supplier of emergency preparedness kits in the U.S. After moving to ""earthquake country"" in 1982, Sherry Heitz, founder and chairman, recognized the lack of available comprehensive, prepackaged emergency kits in America's earthquake capital. She was disturbed by how many trips she had to make put everything together. She had to find food and water that would store safely and survive extreme temperature changes, shelter, first aid, lights, radios, sanitation, and search/rescue supplies. As a concerned mother put in charge of her children's schools' disaster preparedness, she spoke to other parents who shared similar frustrations. ""Why isn't there one place to go to buy all the emergency supplies you need to prepare for a disaster?""
Using her business background and Community Emergency Preparedness Training (CERT), Sherry set out to fulfill that need and started Quake Kare and pioneered the ""earthquake kit."" Today, this woman-owned company has proudly served thousands of International/Federal/ State Agencies, School Districts Nation-Wide, Fortune 500 Companies and Non-Profit Organizations and partnered with organizations worldwide to minimize the impact of disasters. Quake Kare's staff of CERT trained survival experts remains dedicated to Sherry's principle of providing quality, comprehensive emergency preparedness supplies for all disasters and locations at affordable prices in order to make our communities safer. Being an industry leading manufacturing and wholesaling company, Quake Kare is able to offer the most reliable products and competitive prices.

Instead I receive a cheap, knockoff- Ever Dixie "no-name" brand Emergency Blankets from China. I know absolutely nothing about this brand. They're going in the trash. They look very, very cheap and I sure wouldn't trust my safety to these, And as I told the representative at Amazon, this Bait and Switch is especially reprehensible on BPs part because these are Emergency supplies and someone could loose their life from using an unknown, inferior or faulty product in an Emergency. This is serious business.
For those of you who have been ripped off by BP Supplies before with their Bait and Switch, I would strongly encourage you to report this directly to Amazon. It doesn't matter if you just write it in a review that you've been ripped off. You have to speak with an Amazon rep who forwards that info to the powers that be who determine which companies are allowed to sell on their site. And if enough customers complain, BP Medical Supplies will not be allowed to sell on Amazon's site and continue to rip off people.
For those of you who have never ordered from BP Medical Supplies- STAY AWAY- THEY ARE BAIT AND SWITCH SCAM ARTISTS. I am very disappointed and very, very angry.
Okay, on to the product. Each blanket is in its own bag, They appear fine, unused and unopened. I am putting them into emergency kits so they haven't been used and I cannot rate durability/quality but the company QuakeKare makes decent stuff. They say they can be reused but I have used other mylar blankets after marathons and I don't plan on reusing, personally. They get crinkled badly if you wear them and if you sweat while wearing these things they just get gross. But if you were to reuse, there is NO way you will be able to fit them back into those individual bags once crinkled/used. But hey, keep that ziplock baggie and put your used blanket back into that! Serves a purpose after all!
A few weeks later in October we had a freak snowstorm and extended power outage that lasted four-and-a-half nights. Bundled inside my sweater, down vest, down coat, hat, gloves and multiple afghans, I was shivering. I thought it could not hurt to try the emergency blanket again. To my amazement, within a few minutes I had stopped shaking and felt warmer. The mylar traps one's own body heat and keeps it under the blanket instead of letting that warmth drift away. During the next few days, I said many prayers of thanksgiving for the person who invented this! Sometimes at night I would wake up cold and shaking, thinking that my blanket must not be able to help any more... only to find that it had slipped off of me. Back in place, it provided warmth again. This was a sort of blind test that proved to me that its effectiveness was real. After several days of being cold, my core body temp had dropped a couple degrees and there were signs of mild hypothermia. Without that emergency blanket, I might not have fared as well.
During our power outage we were losing heat in our dwelling at a rate of 5 degrees each night. There was a draft of colder air and smell of wood smoke coming from the closed vents of an attic fan. I framed one of my extra mylar sheets with some posterboard to make an effective thermal barrier and the following night the heat loss was reduced to 2 degrees.
I highly recommend this product to keep in one's home and vehicle emergency preparedness kits (with enough extras for passengers). If some day you are unexpectedly exposed to cold weather for an extended time, this could save your life. Get some today!
5/3/12 EDIT: A number of reviewers have noted that they ordered Quake Kare but received a bait-and-switch inferior brand. I've ordered two packs of these blankets in the last few months. In case it may help someone else, my personal experience is that SVM Products LLC or Big Fly Sports (Direct Product Distributions) send the true Quake Care product.
p.s. for EI's:
I had read that the mylar of emergency blankets is inert, not problematic for those who are chemically-sensitive. Recently I ordered another brand of emergency blanket that is said to be quieter. This might not be a concern for most people, but someone who is asthmatic or sensitive to chemicals may want to avoid that version. It has an extra colored layer that seems to make it more flexible, but there is a slight offgassing of the additional substance which could cause shortness of breath in susceptible individuals. The Quake Kare blanket did not cause that reaction.
I received EXACTLY what is pictured, so apparently, all your messages have gotten through to Amazon and rest assured, if you order now, you will surely receive Quake Care Mylar blankets, and not the cheap knock-offs previously mentioned. I will edit this review once I have actually used the product.
EDIT -- The seller I purchased from was SVMPRODUCTS, LLC. I regret I did not post this in my original post as another buyer received Chinese junk, not Quake Care, from another seller. Also, if you click the link that says "11 New," it will lead you to a list of other sellers with fulfillment by Amazon, SVM Products is one, and I just noticed Quake Kare (direct) is another seller, so I imagine ordering direct from Quake Kare through Amazon, you should end up with the actual Quake Kare product.
