Product Description

The EVGA GeForce GTX 780 marks an evolution in gaming performance in an insanely fast, smooth, and whisper-quiet experience, every time. EVGA is also introducing a brand new cooling design; the redefining EVGA ACX Cooler. With a 40% increase in Heatsink volume, the EVGA ACX is more efficient at dissipating heat, allowing for 15% lower GPU temperatures. A reinforcement baseplate maintains a straight PCB, and helps lower MOSFET temperatures by 7% and memory by 15%. Even the fan blades are of the highest quality; with a 700% increase in strength, and 25% lower weight when compared to competitors. This makes the fans 20% more efficient by requiring lower power levels. EVGA is also using double ball bearing fans which offer a 12 year lifespan, 4X longer when compared to competitors!

By Joseph Petersen on May 14, 2014
I exchanged a pair of 3GB GTX780 EVGA reference cards for 2 of these 6GB versions (the reference clock model, not SC). Of those 2 cards, 1 was bad out of the box. When starting any game, the system would do a hard reboot after a few seconds. No, this is not a power issue, or heat related. The other card I received worked (and still works) perfectly by itself. I sent back the bad card via RMA, and received my replacement card yesterday (5/13/2014). Individually both cards work fine, but with SLI enabled, any game you attempt to play (with resolution higher than 1024x768) will cause the system to do a hard reboot. This is a 100% repeatable issue.

Some information: I have had several multi-GPU setups with otherwise the same hardware which have all worked fine.
Setups used previously on this motherboard/cpu/psu:
2x AMD HD7970 3gb
2x AMD Sapphire HD7970 6gb cards
2x AMD Sapphire R9 290x 4gb cards
2x Nvidia EVGA GTX780 3gb reference cooler cards

All the above setups worked fine in Crossfire/SLI. I have swapped out for 3 different power supplies (all of which are more than capable of running 2 780's), 2 SLI bridges, tried various cables, put each card individually in various slots on my motherboard (supports up to 4x PCI Express cards). All results are consistent. Individually the cards work, in SLI, they crash the system when any game is played (CGI is ok, actual 3d rendering is not).

Drivers:
There are 2 driver download options on the EVGA site (I have verified with their tech support that these are the same ones you can find on the Nvidia site, EVGA does not in any way modify them):

337.50 (BETA) April 7th, 2014
335.23 (WHQL) March 10th, 2014

The WHQL driver will not even install.

SLI'd two of these. Nearly same GPU specs as a Titan Z for $2,000 cheaper. What else could you ask for?

I was eyeing this card for at least a week on Amazon. I'm not sure anyone knew it was here but it was sold out everywhere but here. When Watch Dogs released I just wasn't satisfied with my 670 anymore. By the time I decided to buy this I started seeing "only 10 left in stock" oh shoot people are catching on lol. So I bought it. This card is a beast. Nvidia GPU Boost 2.0 boosted the card to 1200 MHz with no over clocking. This cards ACX fans run MUCH quieter and cooler than my EVGA GTX 670 did. At least 10c cooler. The 6GB ram is why I got it. I run a multiple monitor set up. Watch Dogs seems to average about 3.7GB of VRAM on max settings. Could be why so many people have issues with the game. I suspect going forward games are going to start requiring more VRAM than the standard 2-3GB cards. I will get a second one at some point. Right now there's no need.

**EDIT 8/21** these cards are still the best out there for the money. The card I purchased off eBay (for SLI) arrived yesterday, and so far so good. I have an ASUS Maximus VI Hero motherboard that is SLI compatible. However, with SLI enabled, they only run at x8. Anyways, SLI makes a huge improvement at 1080p. But because I'm using 1440p monitor, I prefer my games at 1440p. At 1080p, SLI will crush every single game on the market at MAX settings. So far, the only games I've really tested with SLI, was Crysis 3, Battlefield 4, Metro: Last Light, and Tomb Raider 2013. At 1440p, Metro averaged about 48FPS, only about 5FPS over a single card. I'm still new to SLI and getting used to all the scaling, but in Metro: LL, the game was very "studdery". Once I get everything figured out, I'll make another edit. When playing Battlefield 4, I can finally MAX out the settings, as well as 130% on the resolution scale, for a steadily 60FPS. In battlefield 4 with a single 780, I would dip down to the 40's (maxed out, with 100% resolution scale).

As far as temps go with SLI and the ACX coolers, I guess you can say they are okay. When playing Crysis 3, the top card will reach 82c, while the bottom card is about 65c. Because there is so much heat, I HAVE to have the fan speed to about 90% max. Because of this, my case gets very hot, and very LOUD. I have a Corsair 750D case with excellent airflow. The front intake are the stock AF140 fans (I will replace with the corsair AF140 retail fans soon), and the bottom intake are two Corsair AF120 red LED fans. For the back exhaust, I have the retail AF140 fan, and the top exhaust is my H100i in push/pull. I eventually plan to shell out at least $400 on a custom cooling loop, but right now, I don't have the funds to spend.

First I will be blunt these video cards should not be over $400 us dollars. If you buy this card for anything over this you should purchase a 6gb version of the 980 which has 500 more cuda cores and is ready for Nvidia VR and costs the same for a newer card. I only purchased this card to do Nvidia Iray renders in Daz Studio but they work well with Otoy Octane as well. The 780 GTX has 2304 cuda cores and 6gb of video ram. The reason I took one star off this card is because of the cooling on this card. It needs a bigger cooler for what I use it for. Nvidia Iray really heats these cards up. I had to place some fans on top of the cards to keep them cool. Nvidia is using less video ram than AMD in their video cards and that is another reason I believe these cards are overpriced. Pros: 6gb video ram and 2300 cuda cores. Cons: Hard to find and Overpriced and needs better cooling if used for Iray rendering.
