I came from an XFX 7970 Black Edition because at the time of building my rig (April 2012) the GTX 680's were all sold out everywhere. I "settled" for the 7970 and was perfectly content for the first couple of months. It maxed everything out and ran flawlessly. Then the card died on me, and after about 2 months of dealing with XFX and 4 RMA's later I'm eating the bullet and just switching over to this 680. Amazon had this on sale for $399 so that was a STEAL at $70 off the retail price.

PROS:

This card legitimately maxes everything out. Games that I could max settings on my 7970 run on average 10-15fps higher with this GTX 680. Metro 2033 with ALL settings up runs smoothly now. Crysis 2 with DX11 and High Res packs is nothing for this card. BF3 was beyond smooth on my 7970, so this 680 is overkill. Those are the 3 most demanding games that I have that I can think of.

The design of the card is beautiful as well. I loved the design of it. People complaining about the size of the card just boggle me. What were you actually expecting? The covers for the DVI ports and the SLI port that you're not using is a nice little touch too.

It overclocked pretty well for a reference card with a blower style cooler. +150 on the GPU clock and +455 on the memory clock. And after about 3-5 hours of gaming last night the card didn't go over 75'C in my Coolermaster 922.

The drivers, my God the drivers. I LOVE that I have the latest and most stable drivers from Nvidia. No more having to deal with ATI. I never really understood the whole war on ATI's drivers until I finally left their camp for Nvidia and realized that these drivers improve game performance more dramatically, routinely, and most importantly more often. The EVGA Precision X Software is very intuitive and I preferred that to MSI Afterburner. That came bundled with the disc.

This card uses less power than my 7970, overclocks and performs better overall, is quieter, and I bought it for $100 cheaper than I got my 7970. At $500 I would have hesitated to buy this and just get the GTX 670, but at $400 that puts a flagship GPU under the price of the step down model.

Cons:

I seriously am trying to think of a con right now and can only think of one: It doesn't come with an SLI bridge. I don't understand why GPU manufacturers expect the MOBO mfr's to include this with THEIR products, so I don't get it. Build:

EVGA GTX 680
AMD FX 6200 (4.4GHZ) w/ Coolermaster 212 Hyper Evo Cooler
Coolermaster 922 HAF case w/ 4 fans
Corsair HX850 PSU
Corsair Vengeance 8GB Ram (1600mhz)

I had my doubts about returning my ASUS Direct CU II 7950 and getting the GTX 680 because I didn't think there would be a significant improvement in games. Man was I wrong! I had my 7950 overclocked to 1100Mhz core and memory to 1600 and it still doesn't come close to the performance I get with the GTX 680. I ran BF3 only at high settings with the 7950 and it struggled maintaining 60fps. With the 680, I have everything on Ultra and I'm getting anywhere from 80fps to 110fps @1080p. I'm getting about the same performance as two GTX 570 SuperClocked cards in SLI that I had previously. I'm not sure if the card is that much better then the 7950 or if it has something to do with Nvidia's fantastic drivers. Either way, the GTX 680 is by far the best single GPU I've ever owned and I've owned 7970's in Crossfire.

I was a little worried about the temps and noise going from my ultra quiet and ultra cool Direct CU II 7950 but it doesn't seem to be a problem. The 680 does run extremely hot (around 82c) but I'm surprised how quiet it is. I really didn't think it would be on the same level as the CU II but the noise level is almost identical. My case fans run louder then the 680 which is a huge surprise! If you've ever heard the GTX 570 then you would know what I was expecting the 680 to sound like. I really don't see any reason to shell out the extra money for a non reference 680 unless you are anal about temps or you plan to do extreme overclocking.

My only issue with the GTX 680 is EVGA seems to be cutting corners with the included accessories. I paid $510 for this card and it doesn't include hardly anything. It doesn't come with a SLI bridge (Come on, my EVGA 570's each included a bridge), EVGA badge, nor does it come with a mini displayport adapter. If you are going to go against the norm and put a full size displayport on your card then include an adapter for those of us who have a Displayport to Mini Displayport cable already.

Other then that I highly recommend this card. It seems to overclock a lot better then the 7900 series cards from AMD and you can't beat the superb drivers Nvidia has for their cards. If you have a 7900 series card and you're not that impressed with it then I would give the GTX 680 a chance to impress you.

Fan super loud. Red Screen appeared and would crash computer. **** Update: I ended up removing card, uninstalling all drivers and software, then reinstalled. It now works. Carefull using software included to overclock and fan control, they were the culpret and can exceeded it's own limitations. Updated drivers off website. All good now!
Update***
No not ok, the power connection to card has a short in it. Called EVGA...great support. Returning it and getting another.
5 stars for fantastic support.
*****Update: Got my new card...fantastic now that it works the way it is supposed to. Free game $48, rebate $20, free 1 day shipping, figure it cost me $430...great deal. Works fantastic on my new 42" visio 3d hdtv with everything maxed out. Even Left for dead 2 plays awesomely now with maxed out video settings. Except for the drivers failing and dropping the screen signal. End up dieing in game because of drop out. You'd thinks a $500 GPU would not do that.
