Failed after 6 months, no return shipping offered by EVGA for replacement

I bought this video card to repair my desktop computer, as the on-board video section of the mother board failed. I was impressed with the ease in which the drivers and software installed and brought the card up to its full potential. I am using it to drive my Samsung 65" LED TV, which acts as my monitor, through the card's HDMI port. Wonderful color rendition and sharpness, even on this huge "monitor".

However (there's always an "However", isn't there?), 6 months later, the card failed, thus leaving me without any monitor for my desktop again. I contacted EVGA's customer support and told them the problem. They shipped me out a new card right away, which is a good thing, however (there's that "however" again), I had to pay the shipping charges to return the defective card. Hence only three stars for an otherwise 4 star product. I can't say it is an "otherwise 5 star product", because after all, it DID fail in 6 months. If this new one fails, I'll simply update this review and purchase a different brand.

Great Value for the Money - but very annoying high pitch fan noise.

This may be a good deal for the price and the card performs video well. But, I have bought two of these cards recently (one a replacement) and they both have loud whining fans. I originally bought this same card 5 years ago and the fan sound was very quiet until about a month ago when it started whining. The sound is very annoying and high pitched. Where is the quality control on these fans? Other buyers must have the same problem? I would like to hear if their fans are also loud.

Upon further investigation, I have determined that the "high pitch whine" I experienced and read many other reports on this card on the internet is actually "Coil Whine" in the motherboard. The MB is 5 years old and I never had this noise before now. This is something I never knew existed before - a new issue with me. Nor have I ever had it on a previous MB. I hope this helps explain this sound that many other EVGA 8400 card owners have thought was caused by the card fan.

My rather old (in pc terms) dell computer onboard video was not compatible with Windows 10. I bought this based on others reviews and has worked flawlessly with the HDMI out connected to a 39" Samsung TV. I have never experienced any issue with this card. The only complaint (which is not really a complaint) is that when updates are available it has taken many attempts to download. That may be do to my location (Caribbean) but we do have high speed internet.

So far so good, installed into an old Dell (which didn't have HDMI) to give it an HDMI port and all is well. There is no fan so this card is dead silent (which is exactly what I wanted) and runs 1920x1080p @ 60hz just fine on a 60" Samsung TV.

No cooling fan to fail, works with Windows 10 driving dual monitors

I have purchased several of these for different office machines. While it may not be powerful enough for gaming, it works fine in an office environment driving dual monitors. In most of my setups, I use one monitor with HDMI and the second with the DVI (and an adapter to HDMI). So it will work with a dual monitor setup even if both your montors are DVI only, or HDMI only. There is also a VGA output that I have not tried. There is no cooling fan, but rather a passive heatsink. Since the cooling fan on other cards always starts to get noisy and fail first, having no fan removes the #1 failure component in my experience. I expect this card to last the life of the computer. It does have drivers for Windows 10, and seem to work fine in that environment.

Extended life for my computer. More often lately my internal graphics card has been usable to keep up with the video -- the sound would keep going as the picture paused. This card seems to have solved that problem, and also allows other video modes that my stock system did not have. Installation was plug and play, other than replacing the tall mounting backplate with the shorter one provided.

I struggled greatly to get my driver loaded because the system wouldn't load it with my old graphics card, and with the new one I had no screen without the driver. I changed the options on boot-up and got a screen to load the driver. The driver that came on a disc with the card works better than the most recent one on the internet. Card has been great since I figured the driver out. I'm not a huge gamer. If I were I'd have a completely different system. This card works well with my 5 year old system and is very affordable.

I originally got this for a different computer where I couldn't see anything on the screen, I found out I had something else wrong with the computer.

So I put this in a different computer that needed HDMI, I don't use this for gaming, but it works great on a media center type computer. Easy to install and setup. I have not tried the DVI output, but the HDMI and VGA both work.
