Great Replacement for GeForce 8600 GT

As others have stated, this is not a high end gaming card. But don't let terms like "entry level graphics" scare you away from this card for most users that do not run games that demand high performance graphics. The video card that came originally with my PC was a 256MB GeForce 8600 GT that failed on me after almost 6 years. The 1GB GT 520 has approximately the same performance and offers similar features (it does have an HDMI output that the 8600 GT does not). The GT 520 provides great looking graphics (mine is set to the 1920x1080 resolution) for two monitors and supports all of my graphics needs (streaming videos, basic PC games, etc.)

The other nice features of this newer card over the 8600 GT is that it consumes less power and is quieter because it does not have a cooling fan like the 8600 GT had.

For about $50, this is a very good value. If you don't play the newer graphics-intensive PC games, I would not spend more for a video card just to get something that performs "better".

This is an excellent video card to replace an OEM card. My video went out and so I had nothing on the screen. Researched cards and determined this to be a good EVGA GeForce GT 520 1024 MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 2DVI/Mini-HDMI Graphics Card, 01G-P3-1526-KR replacement as it was single PCIe, had DVI and HDMI out. I don't play video games but this card would probably work for the average game. It does 3D, has DirectX11 support. For a basic video card you can't beat the price and it comes from Nvidia, a trusted manufacture of high quality video cards. Has 3-year warranty. It did speed up viewing on my screen as it had twice the memory as my old card. And the images are very, very sharp. Watching YouTube with no flickering or buffering at all. Great card for a great price if all you want is basic card with some basic gaming.

My pc is dated core2duo 2.1 ghz. The old gpu was geforce 7950 gt 500 mb. Trying warthunder beta. I know my pc is limited in all things for this game. Not much difference between old and this gpu. No discernible fan noise difference, although noise is buried by 4 other 120mm fans. In similar situation, I would not recommend upgrading gpu for the pc. Save the money for future new computer with at least intel i5 for hd games. I am not a gamer but always wanted to try combat plane games. Warthunder, by the way, is online interactive, and I am getting nowhere with controls nor competitive people online.

It's a good entry-level card that provides stable and clear graphics. Windows 7 rated it a 6.2 on the Windows Experience Index, for those that track that sort of thing. Driver install was a breeze as usual with EVGA/NVIDIA.

I would buy this card again and recommend it to anyone looking for a decent card to provide good graphics to one or two monitors, but not for someone looking to get high performance in graphics-heavy games/applications.

Bought this card today after having seen it in operation on a friends computer that is nearly identical to mine.

I'm new to the world of graphic cards, having used the integrated graphics on my motherboard for the past three years (system specs below). After installing Vista Home Premium a few weeks ago my once pristine XP install turned into a slow-as- molasses almost unusable mess. But after tweaking with the help of users, the system boots to the desktop in less than thirty seconds, runs MS Office like lightening, and most internet sites work well ¬- except the ones that are too heavy with 'craplets' to begin with. However, my physical RAM and CPU usage was still too high. So after observing how cool, quietly, and efficiently the 520 card ran on my friend's computer, and also how much better the bogged-down websites ran ¬- I decided to ditch the integrated motherboard video chipset for the 520 dedicated graphics card. When the card arrives and after I tweak it, (and sometimes this can take weeks - after all, one can't sit in front of one's computer all day and night long, can they?)I'm sure it will work as well as I observed on my friends PC. Perhaps the last reviewer is unhappy with his purchase because there are other things (services , security systems, auto-runs etc.)slowing down his computer's overall response. Also, from what I've learned this card is really not meant to run newer games - I suppose that's meant for the more expensive $150 and up models. I'm not yet a PC gamer - I use the Playstation for that - and mainly want this card for taking the load off of my physical RAM and CPU.

So I'm looking forward to working with this card and seeing what will be the best performance I can wring out of it - and I will update this once I have done so. I'm rating it at five stars because I feel it does the job it's intended to do.

Update 11/19/11

The EVGA 520 is working great. Card's temperature is cool by checking it with TechPowerUp's GPU-Z app. Will play basic games, but since I'm not a hard-core gamer, more power is no problem. Had a snafu though with some web sites such as Yahoo News, ToyotaNation, Hearts of Space etc. winning like molasses -- here the problem was my browser - IE7. There is no support for that browser anymore, so to change from Microsoft, I switched to Google's browser . That made all the difference. The browser is absolutely one of the most important apps on your computer, and now with Chrome all sites are running like a greased pig in lightening. So yes, very satisfied with this card, and of course, it helps take the load off of my CPU and motherboard. Spread the wealth around, I say. Also, I see Amazon has raised its price for the dual DVI 520 by $20 over what I paid in October.. hmm.

Good bargain card. Weak on gaming

I purchased this card to replace a 2-yr old 8600GT. I expected it to be faster due to the larger 1GB (vice my 256mb) memory but it turns out it's roughly 15-25% slower. After doing some further research, I believe it's due to the smaller 64-bit data channel (vice the 128 bit I currently have). So gaming wasn't that great with it. It's does fine in displaying a dual monitor setup though but that's about it. Windows experience index gave it a 4.8. My old card came in at 5.8. Recommend getting something with a 128-bit data channel or spend the extra dough and get a DDR5 card. Thanks for reading.
