Somebody in a negative review of one of these GeForce cards claimed a DVI adapter and S-Video cable do NOT come with the card even though they are described on the box and on the item page at Amazon. Wrong: Mine came with both, but it's true I almost missed them. I think the unhappy buyer opened the wrong end of the box, as I did; the adapter and cable are pushed into one of the folded cardboard box-end reinforcers. Easy to miss. I didn't come across mine until I was about to throw the box out and wondered why it seemed just a bit heavier than I thought it should.
I purchased this video card so that I could use a new full HD widescreen monitor (ie larger) with an older PC running Windows XP that has integrated video and only PCI slots. The integrated video could drive the new monitor but not to full resolution or a normal aspect ratio.
Installing the card was easy and it started through the bootup process smoothly, but once it got to the point that the user log-in screen would normally come up, the screen would go grey (not black like it was turned off or completely lost the signal).
These steps fixed it:
I restarted the computer holding down F8 (like restarting into "safe mode"), but selected "VGA mode" and then booted. Everything booted properly but the screen was in VGA resolution. But, I was able to log in.
I downloaded the latest drivers from the EVGA website and installed them (download took 15+ minutes!) They won't install unless the card is installed. This also requires a restart of you computer.
When the computer restarted it still had the "grey screen", so I booted into VGA mode again (see above) and logged in. I right clicked and selected the NVIDIA monitor control program. Then selected full resolution.
Fixed. Probably would have taken about 5 minutes + download time if I knew what to do from the start.
I think the problem was that my computer was trying to drive an unsupported video resolution or something.
