I gave it five stars, because installation was a snap and the product performed well (my needs were basic). That said, the purpose / design of this adapter is not for high-end use. If your intentions for purchasing and using this adapter are gaming or intensive applications, you would be best advised to adjust your expectations thusly. I was able to easily locate and download the latest driver from EVGA's support site prior to installation (often times, the included disk contains an old version of the driver software). This adapter was the best solution for the desktop / projector scenario - the computer did not support an internal graphics card upgrade due to a bios limitation (Lenovo). In the other scenario, the laptop / docking station has four video connections, but only two could be used at once. Yet again, USB was the only option.
One thing to note is that this setup also includes using Parallels 9 (Windows 8.1 virtual machine).
The setup was seamless. First downloaded the latest Mac drivers from the EVGA website. Thought I would need both the Mac and Windows drivers but nope, only needed the Mac drivers. After the driver install, rebooted as requested and then unMirror to displays (as this is the default setup whenever you add a new monitor in Mac), positioned the monitors and presto - working great in Mac OS.
Then went to open the Parallels 9 virtual machine (Windows 8.1 - all the latest updates) and expected the right monitor (the one hooked up to the EVGA UVPlus+ 39 device to either go blue (screen of death) or scrambled screen - after which I though I would have to install the windows drivers, but presto all three screen's work giving me a three screen Windows 8.1 work space with Windows 8.1 running as a virtual machine (Parallels 9) on my Mac Mini.
This is the only device I found to work. The Kingston device did not work - Amazon sorry returning it!
Hope this review helps!
edit: this doesn't bypass HDCP certification. So if you're trying to watch netflix on a device(ie nvidia shield) and you want to connect to a monitor and watch netflix, HDCP block causes a red X to appear instead of netflix video. This may be different if your monitor is HDCP certified(it would probably use HDMI already).
This thing could not have been simpler to install. Came with everything needed to get started and off an running in less than 10 minutes.
The package includes a USB 3.0 cable which CAN be used in a USB 2.0 slot, but if you have an available USB 3.0 slot in your computer, use that for maximum resolution! Also, if you are using HD monitors ( I'm using 2 LG IPS LED 27" screens ), I highly recommend using HDMI video cables for MAXIMUM AWESOME resolution :)))
I absolutely recommend his product that I came across during online searching, after I found out my laptop could not use two external monitors simultaneously.
