I am reviewing the 500 watt model.

This is an ATX desktop supply that is 85mm (3.35”) tall x 150mm (5.91”) tall x 140mm (5.51”) deep. This compact model will fit almost all full, mid, & micro ATX cases. (This is NOT a laptop AC adapter.)

The connectors are well formed and well labeled.

This 20+4 style connector will fit both ATX24 pin & ATX20 pin main boards.

Qty:2 PCIE 8pin (6+2) 1@21” & 1@26”
These 6+2 connectors will fit both PCIE6 & PCIE8 video cards.

This supply is rated at the amperage below and comes with OVP (Over Voltage Protection), UVP (Under Voltage Protection), OCP (Over Current Protection), OPP (Over Power Protection), SCP (Short Circuit Protection), and OTP (Over Temperature Protection).

500watts @ 40C / 3.3v 24A / 5V 20A / +12v 40A / +5vsb 3A / -12v .3A

This supply has a large fan that auto adjusts it's speed so it is quiet under light to moderate load. Under heavy load it can get a bit noisy but no worse then any other 80+ supply I've used. This supply has an on-off switch on the rear side.

My experience with this supply:
Power-up time and voltages were within spec when I tested them. I ran a 12 hour burn-in test when I installed it and the supply passed with no issues. (***Update 2016: I've had this power supply for over two years, I re-ran the 12 hour stress test and the supply passed again with no issues.***)

The big question:
Will this supply work in your computer? The list below should help answer this question.

Form factor: Is your mainboard and case ATX standard compatible?
ATX is the most common standard, but others exist such as like BTX or ITX, so be sure your mainboard and case ATX compatible. This information should be available on product spec sheets or contact your computer manufacturer.

Connectors: Are the connectors you need provided?
Take stock of your components and make sure this supply has a connector for every component. This supply has plenty of connectors so it's unlikely you'll need more then they provide.

Cable lengths: Are the cables above long enough?
If you are using a full size case be sure to check the cable lengths. For instance, if your supply is mounted on the top you may not be able to reach a bottom mounted SSD without a cable extension.

Watts: Can your system run on 500watts of power?
Use a free online power supply calculator to check the power requirements of your system. I prefer the OuterVision Power Supply Calculator but there are many others available. As a general rule you want at least %20 more watts then your system requires.

+12v Amps: Can your video card run on the Amps provided?
If you are using on-board (built into the motherboard) video then this does not apply. But if you have a discrete video card check the +12v rail requirement from the card manufacturer. As a general rule you want at least %20 more Amps then your card requires.

Proprietary system replacement:
If the replacement is for a proprietary system (store bought pre-assembled computer) then first confirm your supply is ATX standard and then replace it with one with equal or larger wattage and amperage. Check the sticker on the side of your current supply and make sure the wattage and each rail of this supply is equal or higher. If in doubt consult with your computer manufacturer.

2003 or earlier power supply replacement:
Modern ATX supplies do not provide a legacy -5v connection. If your computer was made in 2003 or earlier, and still has an ISA bus, it may need this legacy -5v connection. In short, if your current supply has a white wire on the ATX connector then this supply may not work for you. If in doubt consult with your computer manufacturer.

In all cases I strongly recommend testing any power supply before hooking it up to actual hardware. While defective supplies are rare, installing one could destroy any or all of your expensive components. I prefer the Coolmax LCD Power Supply Tester PS-228 (ASIN B002R06PGE) for this task but there are many good ATX power testers on the market.

Overall, it's an excellent supply given the low cost (about $40).

Then why four stars?
The first unit I received had a bad fan and was returned. I'm pretty sure this was a fluke because since then I have installed many more and had no problems with any of them. Every manufacturer makes the occasional lemon so don't let this deter you from buying this supply. In my experience EVGA stands behind their products and honors their warranty so there's no worries here.

I will buy another PSU from EVGA in the future and I do recommend them to friends.

Let me start with the good points. The power supply is nice when it works. Seems to be built well and I've bought 6 of them over the last few years. Cables are bundled well and the cooling fan is quiet. Even reaching customer service was easy.

Now the issue. When the power supply failed it didn't just stop delivering power, i fried my motherboard and memory and one of the ssd drives in the machine. I don't know how but the cpu still runs like a champ. The power supply still puts out some power but voltage levels are inconsistent and frequently to low. So that's done, i call evga about replacing the power supply under warranty. (I didn't mention anything else since they won't cover that anyway) and they look it all up and confirm it's still warranty and if i go online (they tell me this while I'm talking with them) and register it and call them back, they will start the RMA process which should only take 24 hrs. Then when they get the power supply back from me (i pay shipping) then they seems me a new one the slowest cheapest way possible. All in all the process will take about a week and a half plus however long i take- figure 2 weeks total. Plus I'm out shipping which will run about $20 (or more if i don't choose the cheapest option).

So for a $40 power supply it costs me at least $20 and a 2 week wait, for a computer i use every day. After the way it damaged my computer I'm not putting another one in anything i care about plus the time and expense making it questionable if it's even worth sending back and wasting the time. For me evga power supplys aren't worth it. I suggest getting something cheaper or much more reliable depending on your needs.

As a professional system builder, I have to select parts that are available (not out of stock), are priced competitively, have great customer support if needed, are quiet and reliable. Otherwise, it makes me look bad to my customers. I have demonstrated on my YouTube channel the unboxing and installation of the EVGA 500W white PSUs well over 50 times. This power supply is ideal for Intel or AMD consumer-based computer builds using integrated graphics. If you want to add a GPU (graphics card), I would recommend a 750 watt or 850 watt PSU (power supply). I choose EVGA in my business for PSUs and GPUs because they have AMERICAN-BASED technical support who answers the phones 24/7 and they do NOT read scripts but are actually knowledgeable technicians!!! EGVA stands alone in that category and I cannot tell you how relieved I am to have an accent-less, native English speaker answer support calls. They are easy to understand and always helpful. The products EVGA makes have proven to be very reliable for me (I build hundreds of computers, and warranty costs could put me out of business! Even if I just have to do the labor for free, I lose customer confidence and customers are discouraged to have to call for warranty and I can't charge to do warranty work. So not having to fight with the manufacturer is critical to the sustainability of my business!)

EVGA has no idea who I am. I am in my 31st year as a professional computer technician and I choose their products for the reasons I've mentioned above. I have found the companies that typically have the best support make quality products that rarely require a support call. Makes sense, right?

On the rare occasion I have had an issue with a PSU or GPU, getting a replacement is painless and simple. I'm used to other companies taking days to respond to support requests and finding blame to get out of honoring their warranty.

The fact every PSU that EVGA makes is 80+ energy efficient makes choosing the product much easier. The price has a lot to do with length of warranty, so if you want a PSU from EVGA warrantied for 10 years, expect to pay more (same is true with other manufacturesr, for obvious reasons.) You can always buy Amazon's extended warranty as an alternative, and if you pay with a credit card, quite often your credit card company may also extend the warranty of any electronics you purchase.

In my experience, I think buying extended warranties are a complete waste of money with any of my EVGA products because it's extremely rare that I have to warranty anything from them (and I sell hundreds of their PSUs and GPUs each year! Imagine that scale!)

Reading anything negative about such a bargain-priced, quality CPU is laughable. Its like someone is buying an entry-level car and expecting a Rolls Royce! In my experience, the people who publicly exhibit this entitlement are the ones most likely to leave negative reviews. The customers who want to pay the least are typically the most demanding and punitive. While they may be customers, they are NOT 'good customers' and, therefore, not a loss for me if I lose their business and not much incentive for me to want to keep their business.

I have had it for 8 hours or so, It was too large to fit in my PC so I have it sitting outside, and the cables leading inside the PC. Fits in most normal size PC's. Slight whine when first started up, but only when the power switch is flipped. So far it has not blown up or anything bad like that. It was installed smoothly with no trouble. Cables are nice and long, and there are many of them. Would recommend.
