I got these for my 4 year old to paint and explore shapes and textures. He's not as impressed by the shapes, and he uses one of the brushes to give his toy cars a "car wash", but it has so much variety in the package, it's overall worth it imo. Fair warning, I imagine things wouldn't last long if you don't clean them right away, but a simple rinse right after use has worked so far.
