It does exactly what it's supposed to do. Rock solid gimbel, several operating modes (follow yaw, follow pitch, lock yaw) Easy to operate (easier than the GoPro camera by far... :-)
First point to make is on shipping. I supplied my PO box as the shipping address and this company normally ships by UPS. However, they did ship it by USPS Priority Mail after being told by UPS that they couldn't deliver to a PO box. Unfortunately, the package has lithium batteries and is clearly labeled as such. So the post office downgraded the shipment from priority to parcel post surface without any notification. After waiting a week, I contacted the post office with the tracking number since the product hadn't been scanned with any movement after 5 days of sitting in the original pickup facility. That's when they advised me that the package was shipped by "slow boat". A few days later, my package finally arrived and in good shape. This is nothing on the seller, but just to warn folks that the package will be shipped by ground transportation from Oregon. If you want it fast, make sure you give a physical address for UPS shipping.
Now, back to the gimbal. It is awesome. Took about 2 hours for the batteries to get their initial charging. The gimbal is partially broken down in the storage box (which is a very nice foam-padded box, BTW), but assembles in seconds. I run a GoPro 3+ silver with backpack and it fits easily and very securely in the mount. The mount adjusts down to hold the camera without the backpack installed just as easily. The instructions are pretty straight forward and easy to understand. There is a very good tutorial video on the EVO Gimbals website that gives you all the hands-on basics of setup and operation. I actually worked my way through figuring out the operation with the instruction sheet and some trial and error practicing. Then I stumbled onto the website and video later. Save yourself some time and go straight to the EVO website and watch the 10-minute tutorial video. There are a couple tips that do not appear in the instructions. Also, their website has some additional documentation on performing a manual calibration procedure as well as software downloads to put drivers on your computer so you can plug the gimbal into your computer to conduct a full recalibration and to update the device firmware.
While the gimbal has revolutionized the ability to keep a solid horizon along with a baby-smooth pan, there is still the problem of getting "bounce" while walking. The EVO tutorial has some recommendations on how to deal with that by attaching the unit to an extension pole. As I have a need to do walking shots, I'll be experimenting with techniques to get the bounce out of the walk. Now, it's time to start getting those storyboards shot on to "film"!
