It does help with my shoulder issues but not as much as it would others. In addition to other surgeries on the joint, I also had a good portion of my collar bone removed that could not be repaired. This leaves some extra empty space in which everything moves. This brace, after a while, will do as it is intended and push the shoulder joint against the body for the extra support needed, this causes a bit of uncomfortable pressure. This is remedied by readjusting the tension straps. You may have to make several small adjustments until you get a comfortable fit and after some wear you may need to readjust throughout the day depending on activity. Give it a chance. Tinker with it for a week before you give up. It is really not bad.
A small shirt is big on me. So I ordered the large brace. It is just perfect. It comes saturated with the new brace smell so you better wash it thouroughly before use. I don't feel it at all while it's on.
I love this brace. The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is because it's not as durable as you'd expect something like this to be. I'm on my second brace right now after getting about a month of mostly passive use from my first one. If you're going to be doing sports in this, it might wear out even faster, but if you're able to do sports, you probably aren't hurt badly enough to need this 24/7. It was getting pretty tattered looking and lost some of its elasticity the last week I was wearing it.
The fabric used to cover the elastic supports begins to pull up after you undo the velcro straps a few times. Once the fabric pills and gets fuzzy the velcro no longer sticks as firmly and you have to move the straps around to spots that haven't been pulled up to keep the straps fastened. If this ends up being a big problem, you could sew in some patches of Velcro loops to keep the fabric from coming up, but the brace is still going to breaking down after a few weeks of heavy use anyway.
I also find the location of the arm fastener strap to be in an awkward position. Unless you have huge arms, it's hard to reach and I find myself nervously having to drop my injured shoulder into an uncomfortable position to make it possible for me to reach the strap with my other arm. It's also the part of the brace that you'll probably want to adjust the most because there's a fine line between keeping the brace anchored and having it so tight you start losing circulation.
I'm curious how this would compare against the Donjoy Sully AC Brace or the Sully Shoulder Stabilizer Brace. I wanted to try one of the Sully braces, but wearing a full chest neoprene sleeve during the summer was a total non-starter for me. Even with something this open, it gets uncomfortably hot at times.
