I've read a lot of self help books, mainly ones to help me lose weight. After reading this book, I realised it wasn't a book about losing weight that I needed. It was the motivation to get healthy and stay healthy. I'm not normally one to write reviews, but this book made me realise I was doing it all wrong. I don't need to learn how to eat healthy, or exercise. I know that eating too much and not doing enough physical activity is the reason someone puts on weight, or fails to lose it. Reading this book has helped me understand I don't need to diet. It's taught me how to change the way I approach exercise and healthy eating. I normally stick to a diet or an exercise regime for a month at the most, but Exercise Change has made me realise it's about changing the way you think about your lifestyle. I now have the tools to help me deal with that time when I would normally give up and resort back to my old habits. After reading this book, I'm confident I will lose the weight I need to, not because it's a fad diet, but because I now realise being healthy is something you do every day.

One only has to watch the passersby at the mall to see the undeniable truth – we don’t get enough exercise! Unfortunately for all those that start an exercise regimen, they are all too often lacking the most essential ingredient for success. Using the powerful information contained in this book, it is possible to build, strengthen and maintain that was is missing – motivation – by changing your behavior! Everything you need to think, need to ask, and need to do is contained in this insightful and highly effective book. I plan on keeping this title permanently on my Kindle! Great job!

Exercise Change is a book that surprised me in more ways than the one I expected. Having been dealing with a weight problem for more years than I care to remember I have always been looking for something besides the usual, take a pill, eat food you hate, buy expensive programs where you have to purchase their food. Matt Williams book isn’t your regular book about effective exercise, it’s exactly what the title says: “Effective Change!” As I read more and more I was confronted with so many of the personal issues I face everyday. Richly detailed and packed with information on how to learn a course correction for one of our worse enemies….habits!

I loved the 10% Rule! Instead of approaching issues with an all or nothing approach, the 10% rule helped me understand more realistic goals. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a coach that is supportive instead of combative and berating, then I suggest you check out Matt Williams, “Exercise Change.” This is a book you can come back to over and over and still find something new.
5 Stars.

I am, unfortunately, a HUGE yo-yo dieter. I just can't seem to stick with a diet/exercise program. My friend recommended Exercise Change - and after read it it I know why. This book would be worth purchasing for the sections on motivation alone. I finally realize exactly what I need to do to finally reach my fitness goals.

Highly recommend!

EXERCISE CHANGE provides the reader with everything they will ever need to start and stick with any kind of fitness program or routine. The managing stages section (which makes up the bulk of the book) is divided into three easy to digest sections, these being THINK, ASK and DO. Everything youll ever need and more has been included. Also the resources that go along with this book (under the 'DO' section are a fantastic bonus.

I've been working hard to eat healthier and lose weight this year, and I've been doing good. Lost 19 pounds, yay me! However, I'm having a rough time sticking with an exercise program. The motivation, it just ain't there, and for the life of me I've never understood why. Until now.

Motivation CAN last beyond that gung-ho feeling you get at the beginning of a project. The section called Motivation Deconstructed showed me that motivation is like any other behavior, you have to work at it. The Exercise Motivation Change Cycle showed me that I'm not alone in my motivational failures, and also how to stop the cycle by not allowing myself to continually slip back once I've finally gotten where I want to be. I also learned a lot about trigger events and how to use them to my advantage.

I may not jump out of bed every morning and go for a three mile run after reading this, but I can say I've felt a lot more positive about meeting my daily exercise goals now. With the easy to understand guidance in this book, I feel confident that I'm going to finally break the cycle of success/failure and see this all the way through.

I’ve read a lot of books about how to exercise, which plans or routines to follow, and so on. All of which is just fine, but it’s too easy to close these books and lie back on the couch for a Netflix marathon instead of following their advice! ‘Exercise Change’ is different in that it doesn’t prescribe a fitness routine, but instead focuses on changing your motivational makeup and giving you the tools to want to exercise and to stick to a new program. Williams focuses on changing your approach to fitness and to change in general, and stresses the importance of defining your goals to understand *why* you want to exercise, instead of jumping into a routine with no plan. He breaks down the psychology of change in simple language, so you better understand why your attempts to get fit have failed in the past and how you can change that pattern in the future.
