From the Back Cover
From my own business startups, acquisitions, and exits, to the hundreds that I've helped facilitate over the last eight years, one thing remains true:
In most cases, more than 50 percent of all the money you'll ever make from your business comes on the day you sell it.
In fact, if your business is less than thirty-six months old and growing rapidly, the percentage is much higher.
And for an EXITpreneur? Well, the next incredible exit is just around the corner.

I've been reading nonfiction since I was 18 (I'm 37 now) on books of all genres such as real estate, financial education, business, ecommerce, etc.. Needless to say there's not a lot of "new" information to me, as everything is written before a hundred times ..... EXCEPT THIS BOOK. It's a very good read, interesting and best of all, engaging and not at all boring!
My favorite was the 4 Pillars - risk, growth, transferability, documentation. I run a couple of ecommerce businesses right now and I have to admit, that I never operated my businesses from the perspective of transferability. I do all things myself which is probably hard to transfer (I gotta start thinking about this), and there are times when I would do some of the product re-packaging or shipping from the basement of my house (before you start judging - just to give you some background - my ecommerce brand does around $1.5mil in annual revenue). This isn't very "transferable" either.
I'm so glad I found this book - if I ever wish to sell my business, there are a lot of tips and concepts mentioned in this book I need to start thinking about (and great real life examples from previous exit-preneurs).
I absolutely love all the stories of the EXITpreneurs. it is very inspiring, especially since I identify with two of them. I would highly recommend this book to all would-be EXITpreneurs, as well as current ENTREpreneurs who aren't even thinking about selling their business yet. As for all the wannabes - this book is for you, too. Read the stories of the EXITpreneurs. if that doesn't inspire you, then I don't know what will.
The book is a fast read (<3 hours) and covers everything you can add to your business and operating plan now to grow a company to maximum value when you are ready to sell (the Four Pillars). It also details what your bookkeeper can be doing besides the books to have the documentation you need ready to go. And it lets you know what metrics your CPA can help you track so you can demonstrate the growth potential to a future buyer.
Nothing the author recommends is hard to do - you just need to plan it into your business execution so you are working smarter to build a high value asset with your business. Honestly, it's pure stupidity to run a business without having the advice shared in this book in mind. For most people, their business is their most important asset, and determines the lifestyle they will have in the future.
As a side note, the author and his partner have personally advised me on businesses and you can't find people who operate from a higher integrity and willingness to help. They are first class professionals who's first thought is how to be of the most service to others.
As you follow the advice in this book to prepare your business for a possible sale, you *actually make the business itself stronger.* Looking at your business from the perspective of potential buyers allows you to see and address weak spots. Whether you decide to sell or not, you'll reap the benefits. And if you do decide to sell, you'll be prepared.
Joe has been successful over and over and over again. He's seen a lot, done a massive number of business acquisitions, and he knows what works. Both buyers and sellers of businesses work with him repeatedly. He has high trust on both sides of the equation.
Now he's poured the sum total of his experience and knowledge into a book. It's a lot of information, but it's also extremely, precisely targeted on what you most need to do to prepare your business for a sale. Get it, read it, make any needed adjustments to your business. It could literally be worth tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even millions of dollars to you if you are a business owner.
