Henry Petroski wrote a book about paperclips (yes, really) in which he makes the point that there's no money to be made improving their design, but yet there are hundreds of patents filed with minor or major improvements. The reason, Petroski implies, is that engineers sit at desks thinking, and when they get stuck on a big problem, their attention turns to the things on their desk and they can't stop themselves from re-designing them. Thus, we get thousands of tweaks to paperclip, pencils, pens, letter openers, file folders, staplers, staple removers.....

Well, another place that engineers sit every day is just down the hall. And since there are no paper clips there to twiddle, their minds fall upon the need to improve toilet paper dispensers, among other things. This particular dispenser is wonderfully ingenious, very easy to load and remove empty spools, good at protecting against marauding cats, and also good at dispensing just a few sheets without causing the roll to spin its contents onto the floor. The design is very different from any toilet paper holder I've ever seen - look at the illustration.

But the guy who invented it was probably being paid to do something more important, and this was merely a diversion. I hope he's as good at his real job as he was inventing this.

Don't worry about the quality if the plastic or the color match. Anyone spending that much time on the pot spying around needs to get off.

If you are curious about this product and design I will tell you I owned another 'one step' loader, no longer made, and there is no going back once you try these.

Details:
The EZ-Load Toilet Paper Holder is very well made (as other have mentioned).
The 'prongs' that hold the rolls in place will work with the new thinner rolls widths (4") perfectly, holding them securely.
The modern look comes off well in person and will work in most modern to hi-end modern to simple design applications holding its own. (It does not look 'cheap').
The lid might throw some off in the photos but, again, in person it looks great (accommodates 'mega' rolls) & functions to help tear the sheets if you purposely work against it.
The white plastic color while not being quite as true or bright a white as a white switch plate or quite as white as a Kohler fixture white/ white is still a very 'substantial' looking white color for plastic (well chosen), and will work with many true white and off white wall paint and tiles.
I like it much better than my original 'one step' holder, and that one was also very well made & lasted 12 years.

I think I might be speaking to a small demographic here, but to those of you whom have cats who use the toilet, this is a must! We trained our cat to use the toilet about 5 years ago. We love that part, no litter pan is awesome. However we had to keep the toilet paper up high ever since because while she is trying to "cover the smell" which she does instinctively, I guess, she would scratch a giant pile of paper into the toilet, most of the roll every time. On a recent trip to Japan though, I noticed again how all of the toilet paper rollers had these little covers on the top. I decided to try one like that when we got home. Much to my surprise they were really hard to find! Finally we noticed this one on Amazon. Works just like I thought it would. We can now put the paper back onto the roller and because of the little plastic top/cover, she can't scratch at the toilet paper. Works like a charm! Unfortunately the 2 year old still likes to pull at the paper... but that's another story...

Hello, experienced reviewer here. I've been buying online and off amazon for years and I always research products before buying them.

I don't know why it took until the 21st century to invent this, its clearly a much better way to hold toilet paper. Holds the roll very well, haven't had the roll pop out by accident yet. The only issue I have with the product is that its made of cheap plastic and I thought (from the pictures) that it was porcelain. Looking back it seems rather over priced for a piece of plastic, and I would much rather have it in porcelain.

Final advise: The product works well so if you don't care about the build material then buy it.

I feel funny writing a glowing review about a toilet paper holder, but here goes... This holder is head and shoulders above any other holder I've owned in the past. It's super easy to load a new roll; you just push the new roll up and the old tube pops off. It's so easy that we no longer have orphaned rolls of toilet paper sitting on the counter, or on the edge of the bathtub, because *someone* in my family is too busy to be bothered changing rolls. ;) I'm purchasing one for my son's home and one for our other bathroom. Buy it, you won't be disappointed. Oh, and for those with cats, the top shelf thing stops cats from rolling the toilet paper all over your bathroom floor.

It does what its designed to do which is provide a one handed paper change. I like the cover as well. However, as seen in the photo, it is much shorter than a standard holder. So either prepare to patch the holes and paint or keep the other end of the previous holder to hide the ugly holes until you can find a match for the paint.
