I’ve grown to appreciate the many settings in the app for customizing the operation of the doorbell alarm system. There’s plenty flora around here that generates loads of false action on windy days. The wide range of sensitivity options combined with customization of detection area are essential to keeping quantity of alarm notices under control and meaningful.
I could not fault this new system so bought a second DB1C to replace the other doorbell, and wired the power kit to “front” terminal at the chime. There was no instruction for correctly wiring two power kits at the chime, so, not being an electrician, I did what seemed sensible to me, which was to have both power kits share the transformer terminal. I also added a Wi-Fi extender behind that doorbell’s location.
When I had connected the second doorbell, it promptly came to life and also rang the chime, differentiating the chime sound for “front.” All was well.
A couple days later, the mechanical chime stopped working, but, other than that, both doorbells continued to operate to perfection. Thinking I had made a wiring error, I tried a couple changes at the chime, but nothing worked, and neither did a reset of the doorbells.
At that point, I contacted customer service with query as to how to properly wire two doorbells/power kits, thinking maybe the failure was due to a wrong guess on my part, as double-doorbells is not covered anywhere in their instructions. They replied with basic installation instructions in response — the information I already had and had done — and requested details like serial and model numbers, vendor, my phone number. In response, I was sent basic installation steps and links to two videos covering the basics — again.
In subsequent emails they requested photos of chime wiring and asked me to use a voltmeter to measure current at various points of the doorbell circuit. Sigh. They suggested I wire in a second transformer, and put one doorbell on each. NO!
They told me to delete each device in the app (as opposed to using reset button in each doorbell). This was in response to my suggestion that maybe I had inadvertently selected wrong chime setting, for which there is no app access to that setting except by resetting.
Well, I did the deletion, happily discovering that reinstalling did not require a doorbell reset, so that I need not stand outside in the winter weather yet again. When I’d finished, the chime responded to each device button. YEA! And it’s continued to function properly for several days. And now I know how to solve the problem should the chime fail again. I guess deletion is synonymous with a hard reboot!
Customer service was very attentive and responsive to me. Their information wasn’t always useful, but they were persistent; we worked together and eventually stumbled upon the correct solution! As for the doorbells and app, I am completely satisfied thus far and do strongly recommend the product. Its features are highly useful to me, and it’s surviving our late winter/early spring nasty weather.
I also recommend using microSD for data storage, as there is no need to remove the card. It can be formatted via the app. All data can be retrieved via the app.

After using this for a few months, I have yet to find if it has an easy way to manage video recordings. I did find that the SD card storage reports the earliest date which is after my initial review, so maybe it deletes old recordings after all. My 16GB SD card gets about a month and half of storage so that's sufficient. I'm using a high end Delkin Utility (meant for industrial use) so that size is good for me given the SD card issues in my initial review.
I did find that in the Library pane, under more options (three dots) there is a "Do Not Disturb Mode". This mode disables notifications when motion or human detection but allows doorbell calls to go through. This is preferred for me as a lot of people walk around my community. The Library still only lets you see 7-days of event without the cloud service.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I got this to replace my prior video doorbell and in most respects it is a major improvement. The video quality is much better than the earlier generation models (from different brand) and the setup was quick and easy. This still supports RTSP for my home DVR software, so that's great.
For the build quality, it externally looks more polished and modern than my prior model. The installation hardware makes adjusting it much easier. However, the fact that the faceplate pops off instead of being screwed in is concerning - especially as the reset button is under it. I would be okay if there reset button was in the rear of the unit for anti-tamper security purposes. I also had an issue with the microSD card port. The metal cage that holds the SD card is not aligned well with the plastic housing. Thus, the microSD card can be a tight fit if close to the upper range of thickness. A member of a the IPCamTalk forum even mentioned they inserted it in the wrong side of the cage due how poorly fit it was. A product should not be design with such low-quality tolerances. (-1 star)
The software is clean and straight forward to use. However, settings in the app are painfully slow. For example, I've noticed that I can change between detection modes and the notifications that come in after reflect the change but the app still shows the prior setting. This slow setting update made installing microSD cards frustrating as the app didn't report a microSD card was detected. Hours after I gave up and thought I would have to RMA the unit, I opened the app and saw that it detected the microSD card. That's stupidly slow. The camera had already been updated to the latest firmware and rebooted a few times before I tried installing a microSD card. The intelligent human detection mode works well for seeing people walk by, however the motion detection mask mode doesn't affect it so I get more notifications than I want. (-1 star)
For those interested in local recording, there is not much emphasis in the app on local storage management. The "Video History" page has a tab for local videos and it loads slower (expected and relative to home internet speeds). However, list icon to show all recordings and to manage and delete them is not available. Nor is there any setting for how long to keep the recordings for. I'm not sure if I'm to clean out the card regularly with a reformat or if deleting from the Library tab works for local recordings. Granted, I am still in the 7-day free trial period so perhaps there will be local video management options after the trial. I will update my review in a week if there are improved options but my current review reflects what I can see in the app. (-1 star)
Finally, I had issues with microSD card compatibility. Despite using several major brands that met or exceeded the minimum speed listed on Ezviz's website, several microSD cards I tried didn't work. It may have been due to that slow setting update though. However, I couldn't test again afterwards because the first few microSD cards I tried died. They are no longer detected by my computer. (-1 star)
I reached out to Ezviz support and got this response: "Our devices will not corrupt the SD cards if it is not detected or even if it is detected." My personal experience tells me otherwise.
In short, this device has a modern sleek appearance and is designed for cloud integration first. More thought could have been put into designing for quality and with anti-tamper in mind and for local recording users.
