1. inset liner lock (like Kershaw Blur).
2. ball-bearing pivot.
3. over 1 ounce lighter than the real ZT.
4. D2 steel (assuming it actually is).
5. blade perfectly centered.
6. blade drops shut.
7. decorative pivot screws are completely tightened and action is still great.
8. 0.16" blade stock.
9. zero blade play.
10. easy to disassemble.
1. no markings on blade confirming it's D2.
2. design not their own.
3. detent could be better.
4. comes in plain black box with absolutely no literature.
This makes me want to spend the $240 on the ZT version.
The knife comes in a plain box marked "Eafengrow" - no attempt at passing this off as a clone. First flip, the thing barely locked up...uh-oh. A second, harder flip and it locked up fine. Disassembly time. Two caged ball bearings on either side of the blade. D-shaped pivot. Single recessed full steel liner with liner lock, and second small recessed steel piece to hold the stop pin. The blade base is slanted where the liner lock engages the blade so that the liner lock will not over-travel. All was pretty clean and lubed, but I cleaned and re-lubed it all myself. Worked the action - great lock-up every time now. Falls shut easily. Much better action than CRKT models with IKBS. I put the steel onto the Spyderco Sharpmaker @20 degrees (40 degrees inclusive) down to ultra-fine rods. Shaved hair with ease and with a smooth, sharp edge. Nice. Blade pierces and slices very well. The pocket clip is garbage - hot spots - but I'm not EDCing the thing, so I removed the clip and the ergonomics are great.
I have no way of knowing if this is G10 or cheap plastic. For the price, I don't care. It feels like G10 and is grippy. I have no idea if this is D2 steel @ 59-60 HRC. But it's hard (takes an edge) and has done some good cutting with edge retention - so I'll assume it is. The bearings are good, the detent (for me) is fine and it seems like a knife that could sell for more. If the steel holds up and holds an edge like I hope, I'll be upgrading this to 5 stars. This has met my needs and exceeded my expectations. Worth every bit of $26.
Blade stood up to heavy cutting use, still with a sharp working edge after cutting cord, cardboard, and scoring/cutting wood. Back to a smooth, shaving sharp edge with 5 minutes of work on the Sharpmaker. Had a tad of blade play after all that cutting - I was able to snug the pivot screw to eliminate play and still have great action. Absolutely love this knife!
A lot of talk about the blade not being D2.
I am not an expert metallurgist but I have a lot of experience in manufacturing and I can tell you that NOBODY can tell for certain whether steel is D2, 440C, SV35, or whatever without some serious testing with equipment that almost no individual possesses.
With that said, there are some indications that it may not be D2.
No matter what kind of steel you think it is, I can tell you the steel is hard and tough.
I carry it daily and I am hard on knives.
It holds an edge well and I have not broken the tip off yet.
(held a decent edge even after scraping mortar off with it)
The finish on my blade is a little sloppy/rough, but it is a working knife not a piece to put in a showcase.
