I bought this item for travel in India and Asia where I knew I would travel on trains. It was perfect for securing my suitcase/backpack in hotels as well. The cable is long enough to secure two suitcases and small backpacks on a train or hotel - although I did buy two (one each for my husband and myself) so I didn't have to smash everything together. I don't think it provides security for really savvy thieves, but for quick grab and go thieves it is perfect. I travel all over the world frequently and take it with me on every trip.
The combination lock is small and has only 3 digits, but that also makes it easy to use.

This is a good cable to help avoid casual theft. It's lightweight and someone would have to use wire cutters to get through the cable or the lock. This is best described as an insurance policy to keep honest people honest, and to give a thief pause. Inside of airport security, I only really use it to secure our carryon bags with cameras, ipods, etc. and my wife's purse. Those are small and concealable. We don't feel the need to lock down the rollaboard. I regurlarly use it on everyhting when in bus or train terminals. When travelling for business, I do use it to lock down my laptop bag pretty much everywhere. For what it is and how I use it - 5 stars. Hope this is helpful. R

Totally fine. Easy to fit threw the tiny looks in your zipper. Stays on tight. Easy to take on and off. The only thing, is that it'd probably be super easy to take a pair of wire cutters and chop this thing off. I knew that when I bought them, this is simply meant to deter people from stealing my stuff let's say, when I fall asleep waiting for my plane at the airport, or I throw my luggage in the luggage rack of a bus, or underneath the bus. That's all. It's a deterrent. If my suitcase is locked, and the one next to it isn't. Obviously the thief is going to chose that easier thing to steal.

It's just probably luck of the draw, but I bought two of these and one works perfectly and the second jammed closed almost immediately. I'm hoping the other won't jam while traveling. Other then that they look great and are relatively light and I love the cable (otherwise I would have given it just one star). Amazon, as always, is awesome and makes it relatively easy to return this item (for free since it's defective). They deserve 5 stars. But, it is always a hassle to return an item and I'd just as soon these things worked right first time, every time. The fact that the one jammed so quickly makes me a bit leery on the second one so I might return both.

After reading many bad reviews regarding the poor quality of master locks of this size, I happened on this Eagle Creek lock and cable. I used the lock for a dual purpose. I used the inside cable to lock in a gun safe and the outside loop and actual lock through the two zippers on the outside of the suitcase. (The suitcase also has a TSA lock thus giving double protection to frustrate any dishonest baggage handler).

If you don't have outside locks this item will work to secure your belongings on any zippered to close suitcase. No worries about the TSA breaking it either. TSA has opened and inspected my luggage twice and replaced it in the locked position

I am completely satisfied on how this item performed and the quality of the product.

Bought this to keep my luggage while traveling abroad. The main reason I bought it was to keep my luggage safe during an overnight train ride in Asia. I don't think anyone tried to break through the cord, so I can't speak to the durability of that. However, I was able to wrap the cord around multiple suitcase handles and secure it to a stationary object and also lock my zippers together on one luggage. This allowed me to sleep with peace of mind while on the train and it also came in handy in hotel rooms without a safe. I would put all my valuables in a small luggage, lock the zippers together, and secure the cord around something stationary in the room. Of course - a determined thief could probably slice through the suitcase or something, but it was a good deterrent and made me feel better about leaving things in the room.

We used this lock and cable on our trip to Asia. Part of travel is to be smart about how you keep you and your stuff safe and secure. We always lock our bags and when we were out of our room for the day we would use the cable to lock our bags together. When we were able we would also use the cable to lock our bags to the furniture. Every backpacker and traveler should take a lock and cable with them. If someone is really determined to steal your stuff they will find a way but this is a deterrent and makes it a lot harder and at the very least will slow them down. The cable and lock is great when you are on a bus or train. We used it on a train to attach our bags to the luggage rack. It worked perfectly and we had peace of mind that our bags would not be snatched when we were off the train.

These locks held up just fine on our trip. They are easy to set when it comes to the combination lock. The only thing that I was not used to was that the combination is to be lined up on the side (under the TSA symbol) and not the edge like some other locks.

Well made combination of lock and cable. The cable is quite long so it can be used for a lot of places without worry about being too short.

Very cheap quality, item broke immediately I tried to follow the instructions to set the code. Also note that the padlock itself is not a complete unit, the main body is metal but the part the metal clasp fastens into is plastic and feels 'loose' and i am sure a hard enough pull on the clasp would break this part off the main body. Would expect this quality from something you get from a Christmas cracker rather than something that costs £16 !! I have several other TSA combination locks and the quality difference is immediately obvious. Returned for a refund, very disappointing :(
