The main male characters were two twins, one in the army, fighting Bonaparte and the other, the Earl of Sunderland, who weds a young woman named Eliza. Then there was Grace. Her mother dies in childbirth giving her beloved husband a son. At fifteen Grace must care for her baby brother, Sammy, and run the house, while her father grieves the loss of his wife.
Grace and Eliza are cousins. So when the Earl of Sunderland, Carson, dies running his horse too fast in the dark and breaking his neck, Grace goes at once to be with her cousin. Christopher, called ‘Kit’ by his family is to be the new Earl of Sunderland. Only Eliza is pregnant, so if the child is a boy, the infant will be the new Earl of Sunderland.
In most stories, this situation would be rife with anger, resentment, and connivings. But not in this one. These delightful characters all want the best for each other, and as a result, they all end up getting the most out of their lives. Even if it isn’t the life some of them expect to have.
5 feel good stars!!!
Christopher (Kit) Roker never imagined he’d be the Earl of Sunderland. Sure, his twin brother was a bit of a wild man but when he’s tragically killed, Kit is forced to end his illustrious career in the military and return home. He’s introduced to the Wicked Earls’ Club and its illustrious members. While grieving the loss of his brother he meets Lady Grace, a beautiful woman who makes him laugh and his grief lessen.
Grace watched in horror six years ago as her mother gave up her life in childbirth. Not only did she lose her beloved mother but had to become a mother to her newborn brother and companion to her father. She loves her independence and has no interest in becoming a wife or mother. But things change in her heart as she spends day after day with the Earl of Sunderland. When he shares his feelings for her, she flees in terror. It’s only after being apart does she realize her true feelings for Kit. Can she bury her fear and let in love or will she forever be alone?
The whole time I was reading this book, I kept saying to myself how this reminded me of Pride and Prejudice. Is Aubrey Wynne the reincarnation of Jane Austen? Only she knows for sure, but the similarities are there. A tragedy or two, heroine both strong and fragile, hero conflicted about his feelings, secondary characters fleshed out, humor and wit peppered throughout the dialogue as well as a happy ending. Best Regency Romance I’ve read in a long time and highly recommend!
My Rating: 5+ stars
Grace Beaumont has seen the devastation love can cause. After all, it cost her mother her life and thrust Grace into the role of “lady of the house” and mother to her newborn brother at a young age. Vowing to never marry, let alone give birth, Grace dedicates her life to the care of her father and young brother. At least until a would-be Duke enters her life.
Can Grace help Kit find order in his uncertain future? Can Kit help Grace overcome her fear of love and convince her that love is worth the risk?
Aubrey Wynne does an excellent job infusing her characters with many layers and depths of emotions. Kit’s restlessness jumped from the pages while Grace’s fear was palatable. All of which kept me glues to the pages until “The End”.
Thank you, Ms. Wynne for an emotion packed story worth reading.

The Season in London was from November to May, so that March was far too late to be considering attending!
As far the titles, the daughter of Lady Bolton did not inherit her mother's honorary title. If she was of high enough rank, she would be Lady Grace Beaumont, otherwise she would still be Miss Grace Beaumont, not Lady Bolton!
Please, American authors, write about what you know, or DO SOME PROPER RESEARCH! Google is so helpful, and if you wish to learn about the Regency, read Georgette Heyer's Regency novels, she was famed for the research that she did. There is also a book called Georgette Heyer's Regency World, by Jennifer Kloester, which would assist.
I almost liked the hero and heroine enough to keep reading, to find out their story, but.............................................
Eliza and Carson are wed in an arranged marriage because her father is a spiteful, conniving bully and sold her to the highest bidder! The marriage turned out better than anyone anticipated but unfortunately was short lived, we then meet Eliza's cousin Grace who from the age of fifteen had supported and cared for her bereaved father and infant brother, who is five at the time of the story and what an absolute delight he is, I could have adopted him, he was so special. Due to Carson's death we also meet again, Christopher (Kit) his twin brother, whom we had already met at his brother's wedding. Kit had been in the army for years and gave up his commission, with a view to taking up the role of the p Earl of Sunderland, which had to be left in abeyance as Eliza is pregnant. The story revolves around Grace and Kit getting to know one another and developing stronger feelings, which are frightening to say the least for Grace as she has deep emotional problems. All in all it was a lovely, and gently paced story, some amusing moments due to Samuel (Sammy) antics. I would thoroughly recommend it.
The Wicked Dukes series really is as wicked as it sounds .
Excellent authors, Dashing Dukes ,Stunning locations , beautiful heroine’s , Sinful situations , adventures galore.
If that’s not enough you’ve got around a dozen of them to chose from .
This one is great , Kit and Grace fire up for a slow burning , toe curling romance. A book that you’ll find yourself smiling just about all the way through,
