As far as the show is concerned, it's my favorite. I've been waiting patiently for CBS to release seasons 3 and 4 so I could complete my set. But this is probably the only set we're going to get so I jumped on it.

Here are my issues with the set:

1. The original set put 4 episodes per disc where this set puts 6 per disc without the episode previews. Unnecessary quality degradation to make a couple more dollars. *SEE UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM*
2. The packaging on this set is what I'd expect from a Medacy set I paid $9.99 for, not a set I paid $50.00 for. When mine arrived the discs were all sticking out of the sleeves (and were curiously sticky on the edges). I have not checked yet if there are any scratches or if every disc plays. I replaced the case with a proper 16 disc case and transferred all the discs to it. I now need to scan and print a new DVD sleeve that fits. Again, unnecessary skimping on the case to make a few extra $$.
3. Season 4 on this set does not have the "Time" intro theme, which means the episodes are probably the syndicated version. I have no way of telling if these are the complete episodes as they originally aired. Many shows cut scenes for syndication to allow for more commercials (or editing of sensitive content). Side note: I am a big believer in preserving TV shows and movies the way they were originally presented but I have to admit, I never liked the Time intro anyway. :)
4. There are zero DVD extras and no booklet. To be fair, that's not really VEI's thing so I'm just happy we finally have all the shows in good quality in a commercially released set.

All that being said (which are all pretty minor complaints), I'm so grateful this set exists. I've been waiting for it since the show was cancelled and tried to catch every episode in reruns. I'd been holding off buying the cheap TV rips off the web but have been close to pulling the trigger a few times. If this were lost or stolen, I'd buy it again, no question.

UPDATE EDIT: I'm going through the episodes and discs from both sets now to compare and we all may have to give this set a little more love. It looks like the original sets had 8 episodes per disc and not 4. While only 4 different episodes are present, each episode is actually on the original CBS release disc TWICE - one with episode preview and one without. If that's the case, EDI has 2 less episodes per disc which should yield better video. I'll compare bit rates soon and report back.

Enjoyed the uplifting, light-hearted theme of the show compared to the dark material that's prevalent today. The writing is first rate. Clever, classy (non-preachy for the most part) plot lines with lots of humor and the cast and guest stars - - SUPERB! Genuinely liked everyone (too many wonderfully gifted actors to list here) and the Chicago backdrop, with its older buildings and the 'L" train, offered authentic appeal. Kyle Chandler's character, Gary Hobson, is boyishly handsome, constantly bewildered and easy to root for! Would've easily watched more seasons.

I'm sure the discs are done by certainly a budget package look and word plastic sleeve inside. The box came in dusty as UNDER the sealed plastic. Clearly this was sealed before shipment. The out casing is scuffed on the hard plastic from all sides. I highly doubt this is brand new like it stated on the store at time of purchase as it was clearly resealed with all that dust and those scuff marks. As a collector of physical media (and pop culture in general) I'm disappointed. As for the show itself, I'm looking forward to it and will edit the review once I've watched it and ascertained its quality.

I loved this show, and the concept is so simple, but i never seen another show or movie in this type. Well thought of, simple. The quality of video is terrible. Too much compression. It's a 4 season show , and each season squeezed on 4 DVD's per season. At many places you see pixelation or bad video quality. This collection should have been a 5 DVD per season, not 4. Especially for most dvd's that have 6 episodes per disc. Although luckily they are on 8.4gb dvd's, not 4.7gb. But still not good enough and should have been 5 dvd's per season. Also, for 120.00, you'd expect a little better quality in video. Not worth the price. But the show, was great. On a positive note, best case design I've seen, but extremely bulky. It could have been half the thickness. It's an 1 3/4" thick. The dvd's come out of the box in its own fabric case, so all the discs are safe and together in one unit, from any damage, unless the damage was there before they put it in the case. Too expensive for quality of video. Very unhappy on quality of video.
