After losing his job as a librarian under mysterious circumstances, Early's life takes a turn for the strange. If I could rate this higher than 5 stars, I would. I got deeply invested in finding out how Early's journey would end. The twists, the turns, the surprises, and revelations. I don't quite know what I expected, but it wasn't those! They were absolutely amazing, and if I'm being completely truthful, I was brought to tears quite a few times during this journey with Early.

I am absolutely fascinated by fantasy books, and this one completely satisfied that need. There were amazing characters, amazing descriptions. I was able to visualize the scenery, the people, the magic used. Thank you so much for writing this, for having such a wonderful imagination. Thank you for letting me take this journey with Early. I definitely look forward to reading more written by you!

There's a world beyond what you can see. You know it's there, somewhere deep down, but you've been conditioned to forget. Mr. Kress artfully peels back the layers of what we've always assumed was the "real world", to expose a darker, more fantastic world beneath.

Early's path takes him from the epitome of the mundane, to tapping into a hidden magic that exists at the core of all of us. I'm on my second time reading this, and it's just as enrapturing as the first. Loss, love, adventure, and magic. They all come together in a fantastic suit.

Early Mourning is a hero's journey about a man going through perils and loss only to rise above and triumph. The world and realities he is introduced to become more and more surreal and foreign to anything he's ever known. A natural, intellectual, science driven form of magic literally opens doors to these worlds and drives the story. Great characters. Great story. Intelligent read. You won't look at the world the same way.

I say it again, and I will say it some more. I urge you to get this book, Early Mourning, by the wonderful Tim Kress. To step into the world he created is both a delightful privilege and fascinating exploration. This book has just the right amount of intelligent reality and hypnotic fantasy put into the pages that I couldn't help but be completely immersed in it. Thanks, Tim.

I wasn't sure what to expect at first. I don't read a lot of books, but Early Mourning was recommended to me, and I figured why not. Wow! The twists and turns and the way Tim Kress expresses the story are simply amazing. I really felt absorbed into the story line and it's tangled emotions often carried over into my life. It was definitely a hard one to put down.
