This story premise is pretty original. It starts with a prologue introducing us to a 16 y/o Darcy at the point where he loses his father (Mr Darcy senior does not die the way we are lead to believe from other writings). Then we are thrown into the events of Ramsgate, with a petulant 15 y/o Georgiana and meeting a horribly repulsive Mr Wickham!!
The sequence of events does vary slightly in this book, but I am not really bothered by it so much. In this variation, Caroline Bingley is newly making Mr Darcy's acquaintance and shows such an insincere enjoyment of getting to know Georgiana. Though in the end she and her sister, Mrs Hurst, are conniving and manipulative, and have no scruples to joining forces with another enemy to get what they all want!!! When you get to this point in the book, you will enjoy Mr Bingley very much, though he was still so blinded to everything not "Jane" until Mr Darcy brings things to his attention!!! So I truly can't say I love Mr Bingley for that reason.
Elizabeth and Mr Darcy..... They are true to themselves, a mixture of the canon pride and prejudice that we are used to, though they both show some early softening with the assistance of a more predominant Georgiana.
I do feel that at times, the scene seemed to have sped by pretty fast and thought that the book could have been a bit longer to accommodate with further detail in certain areas. Otherwise the story was intriguing and kept me wanting more. I would recommend this to all JAFFers, PG13 rating with no noted mature themes.
This Darcy and Elizabeth were also outstanding; and I really liked the way Bingley took charge of his life.
As I said, a wonderful variation!
