I got the limited edition Twilight Magenta and it looks amazing and feels amazing. It looks like the design is actually made out of colored strings tightly wrapped around the frame of the speaker. You can't really tell that's the case until you touch and look very very closely at the speaker.
The speaker is definitely portable and isn't too big and is surprisingly light. You can easily take this anywhere you want, but be aware that it doesn't really have anything to easily hold onto it. It'll be like carrying around a paper towel roll (it's not that big but that's the shape).
Powering the speaker on and off is easy and so is pairing the speaker. The volume up and down buttons are also intuitive and easy to use and if you press them both at the same time, you get told the percentage of your battery life.
Now let's get into what I consider impractical about this speaker. There is no pause, play, skip, or rewind button. Instead of buttons, this speaker uses Tap Controls. To use this, you need to lift up the speaker and tap the top of it. This is my first issue. I don't want to have to pick up the speaker to use tap controls. I don't want to use two hands to use controls. I don't know about other people, but I often use my speaker while doing something, so I usually want to use only one hand for controls so I can multitask.
Now let's get into the Tap Controls themselves. You have to tap once to pause/play and twice to skip. Those are the only tap controls. This is my second issue. WHERE'S THE REWIND BUTTON? To me, this is a very basic function for and music playback device. It's not uncommon for me to want to rewind so I can listen to a song in the playlist again. This is probably the main reason the speaker gets 3 stars from me. Missing such a basic function is a bit ridiculous. Hopefully this function gets added in a future update. I think making it so that 3 taps rewinds is simple enough.
My final gripe about this speaker again has to do with the Tap Controls. The feature is a bit iffy. You don't have to tap ridiculously hard, but you do need to give it a decent smack. Even then, sometimes it won't recognize the tap the way you wanted it to. While the feature is interesting, it's definitely not the most effective and practical way of handling the controls. I personally would've preferred actual buttons for the controls, but this is ok as long as it works.
Amazing 360 degrees of sound with plenty of loudness. Amazing looks and feels great. Tap Controls, the way you pause/play and skip are kinda impractical. 3 star rating mainly due to no rewind feature.
Edit: I want to fix my statement of 360 degrees of sound. It's almost 360 degrees. The side with the volume controls clearly doesn't have as much sound as the rest. It's probably more accurate to say it has maybe 300 degrees of sound.
Battery lasts pretty long inbetween charges for the amount of sound this thing can put out and the sound quality absolutely cannot be beat as far as portable Bluetooth speakers are concerned. Primarily I use it at work while closing and my only complaint is it has trouble connecting to some of my coworkers phones for seemingly no reason.
Seems to be one of those has the hardware nailed but the software's a bit iffy types of things. All and all a quality buy.

Update: returning it. Most definitely used
The BOOM 2 and Mega actually sound quite similar, and both can get pretty loud, with the Mega having a bump in lower frequency and overall power. I say 'lower' frequencies because this is still a tiny driver were talking about here. A speaker this size will never sound like a woofer (never mind a sub), but the low frequencies that it can produce, it does it cleanly. Maybe a small amount of low-mid coloration (especially when you place it close to a wall), but the speaker still sounds damn good for the size. High frequencies are not too bright or harsh (which I like). Some people might prefer more sugar in the high end, I like them exactly how they are in this speaker...smooth.
From my experience, all UE speakers can play full volume without major distortion, but you will notice the bass not ramping up in volume at the same rate as the mids and highs after a certain point. On the Mega, it can go further than 80% of max volume before you start noticing the bass dropping off to keep the sound from clipping. Where as the BOOM 2 (as well as the Mini) seemed to start lagging the bass frequencies just after 50-60%. Anything higher, and the bass starts loosing pace with the mids and highs. As I mentioned, the Mega can go past 80% before you notice the bass slipping behind. At 80% volume though, this thing is QUITE loud (especially indoors). I sure don't think I'll ever need to go past 80%.
If you are in the market for a UE speaker and can't decide between this model and the newer MegaBOOM 3, the biggest difference is the new model has a charging stand. From other reviews I have read, they are VERY close in performance and sound quality. I do not believe that they increased wattage output. I really don't think I could have found a speaker I would like more than this for the same price or cheaper. I actually paid less for this than I paid for my smaller BOOM2 back when I got it. I paid $149 for the BOOM 2 about 2 years ago, and I just picked up the Mega for $129 CDN! I wasn't even in the market for a new speaker (that's how happy I was with the BOOM2) but when I saw the price, I simply could not let it slip by... no way.
