Earth Defense Force 2: Invaders from Planet Space is an expanded remake of the second entry in the acclaimed action series. Players take on the role of a "Ranger" military soldier armed with conventional weaponry, a "Pale Wing" special ops soldier equipped with a jetpack and armed with energy weapons, or new to this version, an "Air Raider," who fights indirectly through the strategic placement and dispatch of trip mines, sentry guns, air strikes and more. Players must fend off the invaders in each mission area, either alone or with up to three friends, through frenetic real-time combat set in real-life locations. Helmed by the original developers at Sandlot, this is the definitive version of what fans typically consider to be the best EDF title.

I am not generally a fan of shooting type games, and bought this only on the recommendation of a person I trusted.
The game isn't like the traditional "gritty" shooter, it was actually quite a lot of fun and barely took itself seriously... this is a good thing in my book. With a variety of weapons and aliens, bugs, and monsters to shoot (including some not very subtly disguised Godzilla clones), the game was a blast. 77 levels, 5 difficulties, 3 characters from which to pick means the game is full of variety and different ways to play.
There is something deeply satisfying about frying giant spiders in a tunnel system using a flame thrower. Similarly satisfying is blowing up segments of a giant centipede using a guided missile launcher, or using a wide range plasma weapon to level a city block to level the playing field against giant spiders than like attacking from above... or calling in artillery to take out some alien walkers.
This is a third person shooter that does not allow you to recover your health by simply hiding from enemies for a time and avoiding damage: you had better pick up those health drops to survive!
Because of this game, I am now very interested in trying out other entries in the series.
If you have a Vita, and don't mind the occasional action game that manages to not take itself too seriously despite being a shooting game, I strongly recommend this.

The lack of customizable controls in this game really bugs me.
the last time I played a game where you use select to get in and out of vehicles it was driver or driver 2 on ps1.

Once you get used to the wonky control scheme though, it's a fairly fun game.
Bit of a grindfest, but what do you expect with portable games? They're designed to take up your time to make that bus ride to work or that wait in line seem less of a tedious action.

I would recommend it to anyone who likes the EDF series or was looking to get into it.
But if you don't normally play games like this, I'd say don't get it.

One of the best game that I have played. It is like playing the original but will 2 more characters. You can change there colors of their suits and there are more weapon choices when you kill the alien creators. I would collect them all.

In my experience, this iteration of EDF2 shows little lag or technical issues when played on the PSTV, making it a solid all-around experience.

Really fun game for fans of this franchise. It works super smooth 99% of the time and has all the weapons from the PS2 version. It has less view distance, but it won't affect gameplay at all. Multiplayer is ok, it doesn't have matchmaking so you have to create a room and wait for someone to enter, and while you wait you can't do anything else.

Pros:
It plays better than the original.
Includes all the missions.
Includes all the weapons.
Better framerate.
You can aim using the touchscreen or the backtouch.
Multiplayer adhoc or online.

Cons:
Few people online.
