From the manufacturer
We believe that effects pedals should be simple and user-friendly, with lots of practical, useable, and musical sounds, but should also be a launchpad for sonic exploration and aural innovation. Most of all, they should always work correctly all of the time, which is why each of our pedals are hand built.
EarthQuaker Devices Dunes
Mini Mega Ultimate Overdrive
The Dunes is a condensed take on our highly popular Palisades '808-style' overdrive, stripping away all the glitz and glamour of the original Palisades for a rippin’ mid-boosting transparent overdrive. It has all the great tone of the grown-up Palisades but with a simplified interface and smaller footprint! The Dunes features the same Gain, Tone and Level controls as the Palisades, along with our favorite voice and bandwidth settings, as well as the 'Normal/Bright' toggle.

The EarthQuaker Devices Dunes Mini Mega pedal is a condensed version of our highly popular Palisades; a heavily featured take on the classic 808 overdrive. It features the same Gain, Tone and Level controls along with our favorite voice and bandwidth settings as well as the "Normal/Bright" toggle. The selectable voices are: "MOSFET" for a tight crunchy sound (Setting 3 on the Palisades), "Silicon" for the classic 808 sound (Setting 5 on the Palisades) and "None" which goes from clean boost to gritty, pure opamp distortion with a massive volume boost (Setting 1 on the Palisades). The two bandwidth settings are "stock" for the classic tone (Setting 3 on the Palisades) and "full range" for more low end (Setting 5 on the Palisades). The Dunes has all the great tone of the big boy Palisades but with a simplified interface and a smaller footprint!

There are many different things that can separate this pedal from all the others:
It can do from transparent overdrive to bluesy solo to boosting solo in the lead channel.
I like the toggle switch that can select MOSFET/No/Silicone diode clippings, which gives me a wide range of gains and tones to dial in.
Also, I love the bandwidth switch. Using “full-range” mode combined with a lead channel of a tube amp to play metal riffs will put smiles on my face. “Stock” mode gives me a traditional tube screamer sound, which I mainly use this pedal for.
I love the design…love this graphic!
Construction is very solid, and it is built like a tank. I have many boutique pedals that have cheap paint on them, and I always end up getting scratches and chips. But, this one seems to be very solid. So far, I haven’t got any scratches, dings, or chips.
4. Cutting through the mix!
There are many pedals that are good sounding at low volume, but they don’t sound good when cranked up. When my amp is cranked up, this pedal really shines…it cut through the mix like no other!
I mainly use this pedal in the clean channel of Soldano Lucky 13 for low to medium gain overdrive…it is great for rhythms as well as bluesy or fusion type solos.
I do heavy stuff only using the lead channel of Lucky 13 (with a SLO gain mod), but I step on Dunes with “Full-range” toggle on when I need a brutal bass-heavy riffs.
I regularly buy and test out new pedals, but this one quickly became one of my favorite pedals.
I also use this with a Mesa Rectifier, and it sounds great with Mesa as well.
This is highly recommended.
You can dial in a very wide range from sweet and mild to total destruction. All the various settings sound very, very good!
It's an ugly pedal. I replaced the white knobs on mine with black ones from Mesa. The metal flakes in the paint.... ugh, someone needed to mix the paint better because the flakes are clumping together on mine.
I really hate the flexi switch buttons. Every time I power up my board the first thing I have to do is stomp Activate and GainB. That gets very old...
(GainB is awesome for rhythm).
I have a stereo rig and run two amps, I put the Palisades before my left amp (my right amp is covered by other pedals which I really don't need to mention here) the point tho is I never use the Boost, not ever, because it puts my amps out of phase.
I really like this pedal and would probly go for a Version2 if they were to ever build it with this issue fixed, and please, dump the god-awful flexi switches for real ones.
The only thing I dislike is the knobs are shave your dog's butt ugly. But this is purely aesthetical and just my opinion =)
