Top customer reviews
the tools that come with it are solid and I've tested shutting off gas valves and it works fine.
The protein bars that come with it taste better than expected. No chalkiness
the flashlight/radio tool is better than expected. For being included in a kit, it's surprisingly good quality
The ponchos and emergency blankets are less quality than buying them individually and building your own kit. In an emergency, they will work, but for the overall cost of the kit, you're better off assembling your own.
The protein bars taste pretty good (almost like graham crackers in block form) but it comes in one solid block. it would be nice if it was scored, or molded in such a way that it could be broken apart easier. having to manually break it apart is a pain, and inevitably some of the block falls apart scattering precious crumbs everywhere. Again, in an emergency, this will do. (but only just)
the water pouches are utterly worthless. It's a nice idea, but I sliced a few open from different bags in different parts of the kit, and they all tasted the same: horrible! I didn't get sick from drinking a few of the pouches, but you would ruin any emergency food that needed this water because of the disgusting taste. The water appears to have taken on the taste of the plastic lining. The date is well within the expiration date, and this kit was kept in a cool/dark place.
Not a bad starter kit to get you familiar with the minimum needed for a good kit, but definitely not for the price listed here.
The food bars are only useful if you can sit and carefully cut the block into the suggested pieces. The water MIGHT taste better if you boil it and maybe re-filter it. So in a situation where you don't have access to much, and you are in a temporary place/shelter or on the move, the food/water is NOT practical at all.
I have the bucket now, and that's not bad, but I'll be building my own kit from the shambles of this one.
