Editorial Reviews

The Amazon River may be second in length to the Nile, but in sheer volume of water, fed by the largest rain forest on Earth, it is 60 times greater. The great ocean of sand known as the Sahara Desert is the largest desert on Earth, but it too is full of water - you just need to know how to find it. Angel Falls, the world's tallest waterfall, is known locally as the home of the devil, but to outsiders it is indeed a heavenly tumble. On the surface, the Galapagos Islands are ugly - mere specks of volcanic rock. But look closer and it becomes a living laboratory of evolution. Alaska's Kenai Fjords hold the largest concentration of active glaciers in the world. Here, the last ice age never ended. When sold by Amazon.com, this product will be manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

This nature documentary covers a lot in a little time, but the quality and focus of information is extraordinary. Angel Falls coverage is spectacular with a bit of indigenous and western history. The Sahara Desert is discussed in acceptable detail while the narrator shows us the people who live there and how they survive. A very educational series of compressed subject segments that are interestingly presented, considering the time duration of the dvd. Below is a list of the above dvd and the part 2 sequel, which I don't believe is out yet. Hopefully, the Discovery Channel will make part 2 available soon, as it is just as enjoyable as the first.

Earth's Natural Wonders 1
Alaska-Kenai Fjords-boat "Alaskan Explorer" or canoe/kayak-smaller the better

Galapagos Islands-West of South America-Charles Darwin Theory of Evolution formed while studying here

Venezuela-Canaima National Park-Angel Falls-world's taller waterfall- in rainforest

Sahara Desert- Northern Africa

Amazon River-South America

Earth's Natural Wonders-2 See This: (Thursday, Nov. 5th @ 10 p.m. Travel Channel)
Grand Canyon-

Niagra Falls-Maid of the Mist Boat tour, Walking up red stairs(?)

Himalayas-Mt Everest, Everest Highway-Base Camp

Australia-Great Barrier Reef

Alaska/Yukon-Northern Lights (Fairbanks, Alaska)-best to find them above 60th parallel or Arctic Circle

This is a Discovery production not BBC Earth production in the same name. This is more about the locations than the hunters or individual who hunt or push the limit in those locations. It is very informative and well done video since you will be able to explore some eight locations of the Blue Planet. Bravo.

This DVD is perfect for teachers. Each segment is about 15 minutes. Hopefully, the Travel Channel will be putting more episodes on DVD soon.
