Top customer reviews
I was hesitant about purchasing a cordless trimmer since I live on about 3/4 acre and have a good number of trees and other obstacles to trim around. I did some research and found that this little lithium trimmer had quite the amp/hour rating (meaning I might be able to trim without a gas trimmer after all!) If I rush through the yard I can do the whole thing on one charge, but since the battery charges in only about an hour I take my time and trim half before mow and half after. Not only does the charge last, but the battery delivers on power too. It had been quite a while since I had been able to trim, not having a functioning trimmer for a while and all, but this cordless trimmer chopped down everything in it's path without hesitation. It has only been a week since I received my Earthwise trimmer, but if it keeps delivering results like it has I might never go back to a gas trimmer again.
*The only setback I did experience from this purchase was that the original charger sent with the unit was defective. It didn't work at all, which was a bummer when I was so eager to try it out. Luckily when I called the company the next morning (and got to speak with someone right away!) they shipped me a brand new unit without hassle and it arrived even quicker than the original order.
I was reluctant to get a cordless battery powered trimmer because all reviews on all of them haven't been kind, mainly due to battery power and durability.
I am pleasantly surprised by this one. It works right out of the box. It is extremely lightweight, allowing me to carry it all over my yard. My yard consists of landscaping and tall grass, fencing and water. it is comfortable to hold for a long period of time.
My next test was battery life. Right out of the box I used the trimmer for about 30 minutes total trim time. I walked about the yard doing lights trimming for about 45 minutes, and completely finished the job in one battery, with power left.
Of course, if I were to use this on heavy jobs, like very tall grasses or thick weeds, it may not last 30 minutes, but you can't expect it to. I actually tested this on a thickly-weeded area and got plenty of power in the battery, allowing me to finish the job.
It is finally nice to get home from an office job and grab a lightweight trimmer and walk around the yard and trim it up in minutes. I am very pleased with this. I have had it for about a month now and am pleased.
The original line that comes with the trimmer doesn't last very long, however. I did two jobs and had to get some more. I was then worried about how difficulty line replacement would be. The contraption doesn't hold a lot, maybe two feet, but it is very simple and easy to do- I replaced it in less than a minutes.
Now the real test will come this fall after a season of use. Hopefully the trimmer will hold up. I have no doubts it will.
I recommend this trimmer for every day yard jobs and occasional heavy work. Obviously a gas powered trimmer will cut through anything, but this is excellent.
This trimmer is a delight. It's very light. I can swing it around with one hand. It has an adjustable head, which comes in handy. Line spool changes are easy...although the spool capacity is a bit small (15 ft). However, the feed works really well, and since its single feed, non-bump-feed type, it seems to feed reliably. The 2.6 A/H battery goes a long way, and all my 1.5 A/H batteries from the other tools fit the trimmer. So I have plenty of back-up juice. And extra chargers, too.
A little hint...the Worx brand spools are identical to the Earthwise (just a different color). HomeDepot sells these, so they may be easier to find.
I highly recommend any of the tools I mentioned, especially the hedge and grass trimmers. However, we'll see how they hold up over the long haul. For now, I'm happy not having to fight with two-strokes or string out extension cords.
