Editorial Reviews

Former Major League pitcher Kenny Powers (Danny McBride) used to have it all: fame, endorsements and a lucrative contract. Now, after hard living took its toll on his fastball, Kenny has found himself crashing with his brother’s family and teaching gym class at a North Carolina middle school he once attended. Wherever he goes, Kenny wreaks havoc with his boorish behavior and even makes a pre-emptive romantic strike on his former high school squeeze, now a teacher engaged to the school principal. Out of baseball, and discarded by the game he abused so well, can Kenny succeed in his plot to triumphantly return to the big leagues?

This is the funniest series I've seen in along time. With only 6 episodes in season 1 you'll be left wanting more. Sarcastic, fun loving assh*le genius Danny McBride with guest appearance Will Ferrell, tie this show into a comedy that leaves you covering your face in embarrassment, wondering how they got the balls create such a gem.

Do yourself a favor and pick this one up. Underrated as hell, spread the word. Kudos, Danny McBride.

Also see the "Foot Fist Way" if you like this DVD.

Danny McBride has found something special in KENNY POWERS. Though Kenny's life states to be ruled by talent and the grace of god. In fact his life is almost complete anarchy riddled with drugs, loose women, and a wall of denial. However even within only 6 episodes you see something change. This man starts to find his way out of the darkness. Danny McBride delivers some of the best SELF ABUSE humor ever. THIS BY FAR IS THE BEST SHOW ON TV. Is it better to burn out or fade away? Do we need a 2nd season, have we burned all the bridges, uncovered all of Kenny's stones? Even if the idiots at network don't renew the series, with only 6 episodes deep it will stand on it's own to become an instant cult classic.

This was the role Danny McBride was born to play. He is absolutely perfect in the role of a retired MLB pitcher named Kenny Powers.

Kenny Powers is a man who lacks self awareness almost entirely. Coupled with an ego that just won't quit, this series follows him as he suffers a fall from grace, and attempts to start living a normal, unspectacular life outside of baseball.

This series is brash, rude, and unapologetic. The cast as a whole brings their A game. And there's quite a few returnees from the movie The Foot Fist Way, an earlier Danny McBride film.

I am quite the Danny McBride fan, so I'm a bit biased, but this is one of the best shows I've seen in almost a decade. There's a lot of fun to be had in watching normal people attempt to interact with the Kenny Powers character while getting past his almost total lack of self awareness and selfishness.

I don't want to spoil the show for anyone who hasn't seen it. But if it does sound like something you'd like to watch, at least give seasons one and two a glance. If those episodes don't captivate you, then nothing will.

This Season 1 collection of Eastbound & Down was purchased as a birthday gift - a requested birthday gift I might add - for my son. He is a great fan of the series and wanted to have the collection to view whenever he wanted. He was extremely glad to get his gift. It was definitely all that he expected. It was received in new condition and has special features such as deleted scenes and audio commentary of the episodes. As usual, Kenny Powers (Danny McBride) does not disappoint his fans and delivers a much entertaining season.

I purchased this with the other three seasons. All are of very good quality, And, if you are a fan of the series, you will definitely not be disappointed.

Danny McBride is just phenomenal in Eastbound and Down! I was immediately hooked after the first episode. I find humor in many different aspects and do not offend easily. Eastbound and Down does not fail to make me laugh. I am embarrassed to say how many times I have watched the complete series (four).

Danny McBride portrays Major League Baseball player Kenny Powers and his downfall. The first season is mostly with Powers adjusting to "Average Joe life," such as getting a job, living with his behaved brother and family, all while trying to maintain his image of self-proclaimed greatness.

I will advise you that there is some strong language, mild violence and nudity. If you're in the mood to laugh, don't let that stop you!

I have no idea why I started watching this show, but I'm glad I did. The vulgar language and subject matter does get a bit irritating at times, however, it is like a train-wreck. Once you start watching you can't stop. WARNING: THIS IS A SHOW YOU WILL BINGE ON!

A very good dark comedy. Perfect for HBO. Danny Mcbride kills as Kenny Powers. A story about a washed up broke once famous baseball player who goes back to his home town to live with his brother. He runs into all kinds of people from his past. The problem? He still acts like he's rich and famous. He's a huge jerk still. Hilarious.A must watch for Will Ferell fans (he has a part and is a producer on the show).

I'm a female with absolutely no interest in sports, and am madly in love with this show! So well-written and so funny. My husband and I are praying that HBO brings it back for a second season.
