Easy Guide to Good Credit Mass Market Paperback – May 1, 1996
|New from||Used from|
Mass Market Paperback
From Library Journal
In this brief guide, the authors give both useful advice and chilling warnings about the use of credit. Particularly illuminating is their exposition of the credit rating and credit bureau system, which is invisible to most consumers but can control their economic destinies. They give instructions on obtaining information from this system; remedying a poor credit rating; shopping for loans; applying for a mortgage; and managing credit cards. They warn against the dangers of bankruptcy and home equity loans to eliminate or consolidate debts. Appendixes include credit bureau addresses, sections of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and sample letters. While a number of general law and finance guides cover credit, this is handy to have as a stand-alone source with somewhat more detail. Recommended for public libraries.

Worth a try if you will read it and apply the paths they tell you.
This book helped me sort out the mess and deal with each piece of the financial puzzle, one bit at a time ... and within a year I was beginning to see some light at the end of what once looked like an endless tunnel. Within two years, I had repaired my credit enough to think about buying a house -- something that previously seemed utterly unattainable.
Over the years, I've tried to use what I learned from Polto's book to stay financially "clean," and it has really paid off. I just hit another of my financial goals by getting a top-of-the-line, hard-to-get credit card that I've had my eye on for some time ... and boy, was that a nice feeling :-)
It wasn't easy, and it didn't happen overnight ... but it DID happen, and this book made all the difference.
I have used this book to clean up incorrect information in my credit report.
This book's publication pre-dates the internet boom and so there's some information that would warrant a new edition. However, all the critical information is here clearly and concisely, the primary reason it should be reissued.
