Works well but very small amount

Works well but very small amount
This stuff works well in my opinion. It does well with small grooves and copies all of the details of the item you are molding. However, as many other stated...you do not get very much at all for your money. You can see in my photo that the containers are not even half full and the containers are small to begin with. It is an alright amount if you are learning to use it but it won't get you very far.

I only molded a very small thing because I didn't want to waste it. These are very, very small containers and it takes a lot of product to make even small molds. *sigh* So yeah - it works well. I just wish I had a ton of the stuff so I could practice a bit - as of now, I am not willing to just cast molds until my master is darn near perfect. You can bake clay in these after 48 hours, I think. I will try that next, but the mold making is so easy - you just eyeball equal amounts and mix until uniform in color and them place it putty around your master and wait a few minutes. You now have a mold that you can cast over and over again. Ideal if you do charms or sell charms and need to make many of one thing.

This product was fantastic. Not only did it have plenty of molding putty to make what I needed to, but i also had plenty left over for future use.
The instructions were extremely clear and simple to understand, aside from having to work quickly and mix the two colors together, it was easy to use repeatedly.

I'd also like to mention that, as I made D&D dice for chocolate molds, the small details (like numbers) came out very well and there was no bubbling on the chocolates. I also was able to make 2-piece molds due to how simple it was to use.
Would (and probably will) definitely buy again in the future!

I keep just running out of time to get the putty mixed and smooshed arount the thing I want to make a mold of, and definitely don't have time to sculpt it into any sort of detailed shape like a handle cover or new tool. It doesn't stick to itself very well, either, so if I try to break the things I want to sculpt down into a base layer and a more refined shape layer on top, the result is not durable at all. It's fine if all you plan to use it for is flat mold of coins like they show on the box.

Great product. A bit pricey, but convenient for those who are just getting into resin casting and don't yet want to invest on degassing chambers and other equipment.

Takes a little bit of practice to get it right, you have to press in your blank and then don't mess with it or try to manipulate the mold around it, because it becomes stiff so quickly any additional kneading around the object can result in the putty actually pulling away from its surface unbeknownst to you.

CAVEAT--this mold does take 24 hours to fully cure despite what the packaging implies

As the enclosed literature states, the mold should be stiff enough to release within 25 minutes, but I would only recommend pouring your resin at this point if it is a FAST setting resin. The putty will continue to release gasses over the next 24 hours, so if you try to pour in something like EasyCast's epoxy resin you'll end up with something completely full of holes

Easy to mix, easy to work with, however it starts to set up fairly quickly so if you're a newbie (like me) make sure you know how you're going to mold your piece before you mix the compound. If I could go back I would practice with play dough or maybe silly putty, which would be closer to the consistency of this product. I only "wasted" a tiny bit, but once I got the hang of it my molds came out great with perfect imprints of very tiny details. Very happy with this, will be buying more.

    I love/hate this.

I love it because there's a ton of it in this kit, and I can use it a little at a time. It's easy to use, mixes easily, and hardens up quick.

I hate it because when it's dry it's not flexible enough. I wanted to use it with polymer clay, but I can't get my pieces out without damaging them. I was hoping for a less stuff silicone, I suppose. It would work well for flat pieces, not 3d ones, though.

Excellent product for what it is designed to do. The product (1/2 pound) equals about 1/2 the volume of a common soda can.

My wife had broken a hand off a Limited Edition Lord of The Rings statue at home and then lost it. I was able to mold another perfect replica by using an identical statue. I then used resin to cast the new hand, glued it back on, and painted it.

I would moderately 'wrap' the mold once it begins to set, giving you the tightest mold in relief.

Don't forget if your mold has very narrow or very intricate features in it, use a vibrator (strong 'personal' vibrators that women use should work adequately) from the beginning of the pour to vibrate the resin in the mold slightly, getting all the tiny voids filled.

Why they made it purple, I'll never know.

I used this silicone putty to make some custom earplugs/headphones. I mixed up a ball about the same diameter as a nickel. I pushed it into my ear, smoothing it into the helix. Then I took some Philips SHE3590 in-ear monitors (putting a bit of masking tape over the outlet so it didn't fill with silicone), pushed them into place, and left it there to cure for maybe twenty minutes or so.

After that, I popped out the plugs, pushed/pulled the headphones out of the silicone, drilled a hole to allow the headphone sound to pass, pushed the headphones back in, and I had a good set of custom headphones.

The resultant earplug is very similar in texture and rigidity to the Radians custom earplug kit, which runs about $20. I would estimate that I could make perhaps five or more pairs of earplugs from the 1/2 pound of Easy Mold. I also have a pair of professionally made custom earplugs, which I had done at a motorcycle show. I would say those are slightly more pliable and have a slightly smoother texture than either the Easy Mold or the Radians kit. However, I'd say the Easy Mold option is plenty good enough.
