A great book for couples in recovery. This is our chosen reading material for Healthy Intimate Relationships group, and I've learned a lot about my partner by reading this together. Are there major revelations in here? No. Its really about understanding each other and talking through how you're relating. Light, easy reading and gives plenty to think about.

This book was average, an okay read for those who are just starting out in a committed relationship with another person in recovery. I bought it because I love reading about new ways to improve an already tough situation. Because we already have a diverse palate of "character defects" and "shortcomings", I think any additional help is useful when it comes to the conflicts my significant other and I have. The only downfall to this book that I found, putting aside the high expectations I had prior to my purchase, was that the advice felt geared towards traditional, "normal" relationships. I guess I was looking for something a little more specific for my particular problems, but the solutions and activities suggested for couples to perform can be applied to almost any situation if one tries hard enough. I'd try to borrow it from a friend or scan it in a bookstore before making a purchase.

Lots of little gems in this book on how to have a healthy relationship.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T each other

"Thank you, please and you're welcome" go a long way in relationships.

Throw in the towel and give up the power struggle was also good advice..

Really liked this book!

SO, yeah - we've had this book for over two years now. It's helped us through some rough patches and what not. We're getting married in less than two weeks. I'm not saying it's because of this book, but I'm not saying it's not either. Basically, if you're serious about your recovery and you want your SO to learn to understand you better, and you also want to learn how to be a good mate for them, give it a go. It's better than waking up in a gutter wondering why your holio hurtios and you have to remember where you put your pants.

I am fairly new to healthy relationships and thought this book was a great primer! So much of the info I had heard, but not through these eyes. I think Ms Faulkner must have some excellent recovery experience herself as she really seems to nail scenarios!Take a chance and beef up your skills before you tackle a new relationship or just get some validation for mainataining your current one!
